A block from St Mark's Square and Harry's Cafe, this newly renovated property combines modern design with 17th Century Venice. Situated on the city's main waterway, the Monaco & Grand Canal Hotel is right in the tourist center with direct access to shops, sights and restaurants. Interiors are a luxurious and contemporary mix of the new and the classic room decor either modern or traditional depending on the wing. While this position urges guests to be out and about first thing in the morning, breakfast is worth lingering over given the views over the canal it affords. Those with lots of luggage will appreciate the Vaporetto pier at the door, also handy for dramatic James Bond-style getaways.

100 yards from Piazza San Marco, right on the Grand Canal -- no better location. Rooms very nice. Enjoyed our stay in Venice. Monaco and Grand Canal Hotel is in a perfect location.
Restaurant Tip : Harry's Bar, which Hemenway frequented, is right next door.
