Beautiful hotel in a charming city

the canal house is the fourth hotel i have stayed at in amsterdam and very soon after my arrival, i realized it would become my favourite. the canal house is intimate but not suffocating; food is excellent, reasonably priced, and served in an exquisite dining room that overlooks a courtyard. there are places to lounge in the elegant but cozy front room that is also a bar; the dining room that becomes a brightly lit reading room outside of meal times, and in the spring/summer the garden. i took advantage of the option to upgrade my room to a junior suite for an additional 50 euros. featuring a canal view, the room was artfully decorated, and included comfortable places to read and work, and a wonderful bathtub to unwind. the amenities provided come from the proprietors' own line of organic soaps/shampoos/creams. the staff were uniformly warm and knowledgable. definitely a winner!
