I stayed at this wonderful hotel recently on a quick trip to Amsterdam for Thunderdome XX at the RAI. I prefer this hotel very much over the worn-out shoe boxes in the Centrum, at a similar price. Stay here and take a tram into town if you have to. If visiting the RAI, this is a perfect location and only a five minute walk. I was able to have a few drinks in my room prior to the event and was ready to climb the Thunder cages. After a long night of Hakkuh, the awesome breakfast buffet really recharged me. The extra friendly staff here are hardcore to the bone!
Nightlife Tip:
You must stay here if visiting the RAI for either daytime business or a night-time event. However, I would not recommend coming for a soft-music event. Those aren't very entertaining. Novotel knows that Hardcore will never die.

Hotel is situated in a business area, so it's quiet at night. Hotel room is clean n comfortable. Though it's not in the city center, tram n train stops are just few minutes walk away.
The breakfast is great n hotel staff are friendly.

We found the Novotel to be perfectly placed for access to trains to and from Schiphol Airport and the city, and to the tram service to and from the city which pased m
near to many key sites like Rijksmuseum. Van Gogh Museum, Heieken Experience, Rembrandt House.
The hotel itself is within 300 metres of the transport hub. Our room was spacious and well equipped and our package included complimentary breakfast and mini-bar. All of the staff were friendly and very pleasant to deal with. The hotel is quite amenable to early check-in and will provide a room early if a serviced room is available. Otherwise there is an excelkent "left luggage" service to use while you catch one of the nearby transport options to start your sightseeing.
We really enjoyed the Novotel and would return without hesitation.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Buy a €7.50 24hour transport pass when you catch the #4 tram into the city. catch any number of trams in a 24 hour period from the time you buy the ticket. You may be able to get one of these at the hotel, they can certainly give you advice on attraction locations on the route.
