I picked this hotel as my wife and I prefer smaller boutique hotels when we travel. This was special because we were intending to splurge on a suite as it was our wedding anniversary. They have, however, only one suite and it was taken up. The receptionist very generously upgraded us to a larger room.
We arrived at about 9.30 am and the room was not ready. We were invited to join the breakfast--at no extra charge.
We then left our luggage and went out to tour. When we returned at the end of the first day, we found a bottle of champagne in a bucket of ice along with a plate of grapes on the dresser. A note from the owner said that it was for us to celebrate our anniversary. But we had just had a full dinner. Well, they kindly allowed us to keep the bottle to enjoy the following evening. And that following evening, we found the bottle appropriately chilled with ice.
Service was good throughout. The staff appeared to enjoy chatting with guests and making us feel at home. One group was advised to hire a van to tour instead of going by the commercial tours.
The location of the hotel is reasonable. It is a 3-minute walk from the Avenida Metro stop and 10-minute walk from the Restauradores area where there is a cluster of restaurants. Because it is located on the street parallel to the busy Avenida, it is quiet.
At the end of the stay, there was a feedback form asking for suggestions for improvement. I had only one--the front door is extremely heavy. Which reminds me of heaven--once you get it, it's paradise.
Restaurant Tip:
Check out the Flores Restaurant at the Bairro Alto Hotel. Service was excellent, the food was wonderful--not overwrought with creams and sauces, and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommended, especially after walking around the area's shops.
