My short stay in Baia Mare was made all the better by the selection of the Mara Hotel. I have stayed in many places, and this establishment compares favourably to them all. The rooms were well sized, comfortable and well ventilated. The Bathrooms and the plumbing were very good. Staff were keen, friendly and helpful and eager to assist guests, well particularly this one. My stay in the Maramures was good anyway. Baia Mare is a beautiful place and the people Ii found very welcoming and interested in where i was from and why i was visiting. I suppose it may be unusual to get an Australian guest. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The hotel is 15 minutes walk from the town square, located in a pleasant part of the town overlooking a large park with the city as a foreground for the mountains beyond. The facilities are exceptionally good, with the staff being, friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. looking at some of the other hotels in the town, I believe that my choice was a wise one! The restaurant and Bar were well kept, and the staff attentive. On the night I stayed, a large bus-full of tourists arrived and commandeered the Restaurant. This was of no trouble to the staff who treated the other customers of the food service as if they were in the normal restaurant area. When i was leaving, at a very early hour of the morning, the desk staff called my taxi which arrived promptly.

I found nothing to complain about. The Restaurant menu gave me a shock, ie the prices, but i was pleasantly surprised when the final Noto de plata arrived, to find that the prices were wrong. Far too high for thee actual cost. The food was brilliant.

  • Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : This is a lovely walking town. So many of the places are best seen when walking. The place is safe and well lit and the restaurants in the town square are very good. The people i found to be sincere, honest and eager to please. The train trip from Cluj Napoca is interesting, and scenic. i wish i had more time to get around the district!
