Moscow
The largest city in Russia and amongst the largest urban areas in the world, Moscow is the political, financial, economic, and transportation center of Russia. The city is situated on the banks of the Moskva River, with 49 bridges on the river (and its canals) falling within the city limits.
Getting to Moscow is easy, with up to five international airports serving the city, alternatively there are nine rail terminals to handle trains from different parts of Europe and Asia. Local transport includes the Moscow Metro, one of the busiest in the world with 12 lines and 176 stations. There is also a monorail line, tram, trolleybus and an electric rail network to help you get to and from your local Moscow hotel.
As with all large cities, accommodation in Moscow is available to suit all pockets. Rooms are available for budget travelers as well as for those looking for five-star hotels.
Moscow is the heart of the arts in Russia, with the historic Bolshoi Theatre still staging ballets, operas and concerts. Tverskaya Street is the center of the city’s entertainment and nightlife with several luxurious bars and restaurants. It is also the busiest shopping street in Moscow with most well-known international boutiques.
One of the most recognized features of Moscow is probably the colorful onion domes of the St. Basil’s Cathedral. Other famous sites include the Kremlin and Red Square. The Old Arbat Street is perfect for picking up trinkets and souvenirs, while the New Arbat Street is ideal for high-end restaurants and nightclubs.
