The Helvetia, housed in a mansion designed by Swiss architect Augusto Lange in 1828, combines stunning architectural elements and contemporary elegance. Guests will enjoy the proximity to the many fine shops, restaurants and historic sites just a short stroll away including the Rastrelliesque Stroganov Palace, the huge neoclassical Kazan Cathedral, the Art Nouveau Bookhouse, and the monument to Catherine the Great. The Consulate General of Switzerland shares the same building, which is located just off St. Petersburg’s main thoroughfare ‘Nevsky Prospekt’. The hotel also boasts a secluded inner courtyard offering guests unperturbed tranquility and escape from the frenetic pace of this cosmopolitan city area. The historical Helvetia makes for the perfect base from which to explore the rich architecture of St. Petersburg.
Children and extra beds:- Extra beds are dependent on the room you choose, please check the individual room policy for more details.

Quaint little and homey hotel
close to subway and friendly and helpful staff

The hotel was adequate and homey. Close to station. If you like to walk, it is just a straight line all the way to the Central of St Petersburg. We went during Sy Petersburg day and it was loads of fun and activities especially for young children. Don't miss the Russia Ballet, but make sure it is the famous Bolshoi.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Russian Ballet is a must, but do book at your hotel reception for all your tours as they are more well versed in English and the original Bolshoi Ballet. We loved our tour guide Anya as she was well versed in the Arts at the Hermitage and others.

Nice and cozy hotel with a nice hopitality. The driver was calm, the bell boy was very helpful. The front desk was very profewssional.
The restuarant was very nice atmosphere with fabulous taste in russian style.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Walking distance to shopping places. Easy to get around with a bus. You can walk to tourist attractions.

This Hotel aspires to be a 5 Star Accomodation
Everything was perfect with the customer service barely edging out room and restaurant expectations

The location was great; right off Nevesky Prospect for walking to the Hermitage along a shopping studded street, near the train station for a trip to Moscow, and close to the subway stations for jaunts to sites located a little farther out of the district. the hotel was picture post card perfect! Enough can not be said about the hotel and restaurant staff's courteous and professional manner. The administrator, the assistants, the household service, the "bellboys", the waiters, and the support staff they called for taxi service after booking us into the opera and ballet were all excellent! The price you would pay the Helvetia will not get you the level of quality you would get for the same price here in the US or in Western Europe!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
My main tip would be that you acquaint yourself with the Crylic alphabet so you can pronounce the words from your phrase book and be able to understand the sign posted in stores, subways, restaurants and on the street. Do this will make you feel more a home in a wonderful city filled with many beautiful thing s to do.
