Sants-Montjuïc

Occupying a fifth of the city, Sants-Montjuïc has very good connections to central Barcelona, and cheaper accommodation options. The main draw is Montjuïc mountain, reaching nearly 700 feet above the port. Just a five- minute walk from the central station, the mountain’s numerous attractions include the 17th-century Montjuïc Castle at its peak, which offers spectacular panoramic views over the city.

At the base Montjuic mountain is Plaça d'Espanya, a beautiful square created for the 1929 World Exhibition. The Montjuic fountain in the center of the square – which combines sound, light and water – is a major attraction, and live music is performed here in the summer. Above the fountain is the Palau Nacional, a 1929 landmark that stands out against the Barcelona skyline. Today, it contains the Catalan National Art Museum (MNAC). The museum can be reached on foot or by elevator. Next to the Palau Nacional is the Spanish village, Poble Espanyol: an outdoor museum where you can find architecture and crafts from all over Spain.

Close to the train station there are two parks. Parc de l'Espanya Industrial’s parkland is lined with trees, a large plaza, fountains, artificial lake, modern sculptures and futuristic towers. Meanwhile, Parc de l'Escorxador consists of rows of palms and pines overlooked by a 22-meter sculpture made by Miró.

Camp Nou, the biggest football stadium in Europe, is the home ground for Barcelona's biggest and most popular team, and there are Botanical Garden is situated just after the stadium. The Sants Market (Mercat de Sants) and the Hostafrancs Market (Mercat d'Hostafrancs) are also both in this neighborhood. Sants has its own annual festival, starting in the last week of August: Festa Major de Sants.
