Right in the center of the tourist circuit, this hotel off Las Ramblas is perfectly placed for first-time visitors to Barcelona. One street over from Ramblas dels Caputxins, the Principal Hotel has all the energy and excitement of the inner city right at the doorstep. Placa Catalunya is less than ten minutes away on foot - the main pick-up point for all three tourist bus routes and the site of much activity; the Liceu metro stop is also only a short walk away, and a vast array of fast food, supermarkets and cute cafes are all around. Rooms at Principal are refurbished in a bright and modern manner, with free internet (wifi and via a PC in the lobby), balconettes and spacious new bathrooms. From this location everything is easy, from morning strolls through the Gothic Quarter to midnight dinners by the Mediterranean.

the people on the desk could have been more welcoming, but weren't, the bed was as hard as a rock, the restaurant looked ok but we weren't able to eat there because of an early flight. the bathroom was modern, except for the bed, other than the bed, we had no complaints. we would stay there again but ensure something was done about the bed. we did have trouble finding the principal hotel and a cross street would have helped us find it sooner, as we had walked from the start of la rambla from the harbour, incidentally the nearest cross street to the principal hotel is hospital st.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
a taxi to the airport was euro 30, we had a good driver.
nice bar/restaurants in the area, close to la rambla, and take a good walk up la rambla onto passieg de gracia road and view gaudi buildings and high profile shops etc, barcelona is very nice to walk around.
