Charming home, welcoming staff and beautiful site

We are seasoned travellers and have stayed in varying types and standards of hotels - we did our homework before booking and read about the "rocky, winding road up" mentioned in all the reviews and choose it anyway because aside from that everything else seemed very positive. We were not disappointed.
Our massive room had really high ceilings, windows all round with breathtaking views over Port Soller and the surrounding Tramuntana mountains. Imagine waking up to that every morning : ) Breakfast, though the same everyday was fresh, abundant with plenty of options. They few animals (a sleepy dog, a curious donkey and a few goats) living in the surrounding compound were non-intrusive & would go down a treat for families with children. This is also a eco-conscious hotel so the water from the taps are processed differently and comes out a bit salty (but it was ok) and towels are not changed everyday unless you request so but our room was always made up nicely and neatly daily. The (gated) pool had great views over Port Soller.
Now about the much talked-about road up: Granted, it is not the smoothest drive, it is not paved in most parts, it is quite rocky but no where as bad as how it is described in some of the reviews we've read. After you have had your first drive up and know what to expect, it really isn't that bad at all. We had a very large 4x4 type car and drove very slowly and carefully and it took us around 8-10 minutes in all. For us, this was a minor trade-off for what a treat this hotel was.
This is not the Ritz, with concierge services and a bellhop to lug your luggage around for you and if this is what you are after this is not the place for you. However, if prefer a family-run guesthouse with staff who are personal & warm in the most incredibly charming environment, we cannot recommend the hotel enough. We stayed for 8 days and wished we could have stayed for longer.
