Furnishings and size of room; historic setting; breakfast; staff. I felt I got a very good price on a wonderful experience, and in fact preferred this hotel to the actual parador we stayed in later in Leon. This felt like a parador.

Really nothing. The bed could have been more comfortable (especially for those with bad backs), but I think this was the most comfortable bed of the entire trip. Worst thing--the hotel was hard to find! Signs throughout town do point to it, but we were lost in the maze for a while.

Housed in a former convent, this hotel offers a fine luxury experience. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Our rooms overlooked the gardens. Rooms were quiet. The staff was helpful. It's a 10 minute walk or slightly more to the main square and cathedral--removed enough to be quiet, close enough to be central. Luxurious bathroom with great foamy bubblebath (bath gel) and beautifully sweet scented soap (that looks like a golf ball!). An abundant breakfast with lots of choices was well worth the price, and served in a tastefully decorated room consistent with the building's history--a neat blend of antique Spanish with contemporary. Loved the hotel!

Restaurant Tip : I was searching for a place in which to enjoy the traditional meal of scallops (the symbol for St. James) and couldn't find one. A native at a small cafe suggested we go to one of two places nearby. We very much enjoyed our meal at the Meson Enxebre. The scallops served in their own shells were delicious, as was the cafe con leche and traditional almond cake. The price was good as was service and nice atmosphere. It wasn't until I went to use the bathroom (you had to go through the hotel lobby, upstairs, and could glimpse the more upscale restaurant there as well) that I discovered this was the cafe for the parador!

It is a well situated, serene place. It's an easy, relaxing stroll to the center of town and is like a sanctuary of tranquility removed from the tourist & local traffic of the city centre. The court yard was a great feature on top of spacious, clean sweet-smelling rooms, and a large modern bathroom. The staff was more than knowledgeable about the city and willing to assist you with a smile on their faces.

None

The next time I travel through Spain/Portugal/Italy, I will make sure I am staying at an AC Hotel. The staff, the setting, the room, the food, and ambiance were all first class. We checked out on a Thursday morning and we did not leave for our flight until 8:40PM that day, the staff offered to store our luggage for us in a secure location and called us a cab to the airport. Great service & great features made the difference. If you are on the fence from a budget end as to whether you should stay here or not, opt for the AC Palacio Del Carmen, it is true that you get what you pay for.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : At Noon on certain days of the year, there is a mass held in the Cathedral in the City's Centre, what is really cool is at the end of the service (which you can enter and exit respectfully at your leisure) a 2 meter censer (silver vessel for spreading incense) is swung by 4 priests, it is amazing; this large object achieves speeds of 68 KMpH and swings up to 20 meters over the heads of the faithful. Bring the cameras/camcorders for this.

best features of the hotel were the comfortable beds, slippers and attentive staff. Fitness center facilities were nice to use also.

location at the bottom of a steep hill - not much they can do about that but we did get a good workout in every morning going up that hill!

We've just returned from out stay at the AC Palacio del Carmen. and had a great time. The location of the hotel (convenient to train, airport and all the sites of Santiago) was terrific. The staff was always helpful from suggestions on where to eat to supplying extra towels when needed. The fitness facility provided a nice break in the day for going for a swim, doing yoga in the gardens or running on the treadmill. We had no complaints at all with our stay here.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We planned our days on foot so that we limited our trips to and from the hotel up to the main tourist attractions (the cathedral and the areas surrounding) to just a couple times a day. If traveling by foot, the hotel is located at the bottom of a steep hill and by the end of our stay, that hill seemed to get steeper and steeper.
