This international class hotel, situated on Rue De la Terrassiere, is located near the center of the city. Television - hard to figure out the overly complicated menu system; message light on phone blinked continuously, and the staff could not turn it off; Wi-fi is available only in the lobby and for an extra charge
The Diplomate Hotel is a small, efficient property with a friendly staff. I would consider staying there again. It's a bit quirky (TV menu, etc.) but not enough to be annoying. The room was clean, and the shower was quite nice. I doubt if there are any rooms with really good views. Mine looked out over a garage area of another building. The hotel is about a 20-30 minute walk from the lake. It is on three tram lines (#12, 16, 17), and a selection of restaurants is within walking distance or a short (1 or 2 stops) tram ride.
Restaurant Tip : A selection of restaurants is available at the nearby Molard area and tram stop (2 stops from hotel). In good weather there is outdoor seating in a nice plaza there.
The hotel can be reached from the airport using public transit: #5 or #10 bus to Gare Cornavin, and switch to one of the tram lines mentioned here. The trip will take about 40 minutes. A taxi from the airport costs about 40-45 francs (2008 price). Although not part of the EU, most businesses and taxis in Geneva accept euros.
