The rooms leave quite a bit to be desired: the carpeting is filthy and many of the rooms are dingy. Additionally, while the hotel is centrally located, it is on a remote side street next to a huge trash collection area. It's a little scary to walk in that area at night, especially because the lighting is poor.
We were mostly disappointed with our stay at the Hotel Askoc -- but not entirely. When we arrived, we were placed into a single room despite our protestations about having booked a double room. The night-duty attendant was rude. The next morning, I explained to the assistant manager that I had booked a double room (though this is not what their paperwork showed) and that I would simply accept the $11/night difference credited back to my card in lieu of the double room. I quickly received a double room. After this, all of the hotel attendants were pleasant with us.
The first room, with single beds, was dingy, filthy, hot (the AC did not work well), and the beds were remarkably lumpy and uncomfortable. The double room, on the opposite side of the hall, had a wonderful view out to the Bospherous and it was cleaner and generally nicer.
This hotel advertises itself as a 4-star establishment, but it is nowhere near receiving such a designation. Additionally, the room rates it posted as "normal" on the site, compared to the lower rates being offered, were much higher than what they advertise in the lobby. Finally, as mentioned earlier, the service was initially very poor.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : You can easily walk to the Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar, the Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, and more from this hotel. If you are coming in on the train, this hotel is ideal: the station is only a 200-meter walk from the hotel.

CLEAN ROOM, GOOD RECEPTION, NOT TOO FAR FROM ISTANBUL AIRPORT. BREAKFAST GOOD. GREAT ROOM WITH WATERVIEW IN THE OLD CITY WHICH WAS CHARMING.THE STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL AND GRACIOUS. HOTEL WAS VERY CLOSE TO ST SOPHIA, BLUE MOSQUE, BASILICA CISTERNS, SPICE MARKETS, ARAB MARKETS. LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT FOR DINING ALSO ON AUTHENTIC TURKISH CUISINE. ALL IN ALL WE ENJOYED OUR STAY VERY MUCH AS WE PAID HALF THE PRICE WITH AGODA COMPARED TO OUR TRAVEL AGENT IN AUSTRALIA.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : All are mentioned above so easily accessible, walking distance.
