Beautiful location, right near the tram station, minutes from the Grand Bazaar, and just a short walk to the Blue Mosque, affordable too! And for the great room prices you can't beat immaculate furnishings, friendly and accommodating hotel reception, and a reasonably priced restaurant offering fine Turkish and European cuisines.In the evenings stroll over to the bar for a nice aperitif before a light meal. The Golden Crown boasts an extensive selection of European wines and liquors, it also has a pleasant atmosphere great for romantic evenings. And if you have trouble finding your way around, be sure to ask the hotel staff; they are equipped with knowledge of the area, a fine handle on English, and a friendly attitude shaped to set you on your way in beautiful Istanbul.

Nice and clean rooms. The breakfast was a pleasant buffet style, plenty to eat. The hotel was easily accessable to the tram and the main sites.
Constant traffic noise. The locals love their car horns!! The bar area was neglected which meant you could not sit around and chat to other guests. It felt unwelcoming in a way.
I enjoyed my stay here as I do like cleanliness. My room was comfortable, although the traffic in the little laneways got pretty loud at times. The locals seem to love their car horns!! There were plenty of restaurants so close by which was a huge plus for me. The house staff were concientous in making sure the guests were looked after and at times fussed over me. I thought that was very nice. The front counter staff were polite but not forthcoming so my initual feeling on first arrival was one of, unwelcome. However, they responded with humour when asked questions and came across as helpful. Overall, a good hotel.
Travel tip : The hotel is close to the tram. Even though Sultanhemet is a few minutes walk away, I suggest you get on at the local tramstop if going to the waterfront and other side of Istanbul, as Sultanhamet tram stop is very congested.
Oh, and do your souvenier shopping along the tramline at gulhane, next stop past Sultanhemet, as they are much cheaper than all the bazaars.The side streets around the hotel and down to the water are wonderful (downhill) as the sights and smells are magical. Plenty of shops, food, gift shops, cafes and people watching just a stones throw away from the hotel. Perfect!
