Great view of the Blue Mosque
Fantastic views of the BlueMosque from our room and the breakfast room

This is a great hotel to stay in as it's right on Sultanahmet Square, so all the main attractions are within walking distance. If you're after nightlife, you'd probably be better staying in the heart of Old Sultanahmet, where ther's a greater choice of restaurants, but we were happy to eat in the restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel, where the food was good and the service friendly.

Great Location, Aging Rooms
Proximity to Attractions and Food
7.3
This hotel is just a few hundred feet from the Blue Mosque and other attractions in Sultanhamet which will help you get an early start on these required sites in Istanbul. The breakfast is decent and there are great views from the dining room on a clear morning. My room (top floor) smelled of smoke from the hallway which is not uncommon in Istanbul but was annoying. I avoided the pricey restaurant downstairs in favor of the kebab places down the street or the higher rated restaurants at other hotels within walking distance. No in-room safe.
In summary, you are paying for location at this hotel so you cannot be too disappointed with older rooms. There are many options in the area so if you do not mind walking a little further to the attractions, you may be able to find a better room elsewhere.
Restaurant Tip:
Denizen Cafe (next door) is like a North American coffeeshop cut and pasted into this touristy area...good for a latte fix if you do not want to walk up to the starbucks near hagia burnt column

Hotel Spectra is a converted Ottoman House in the old city of Istanbul at the corner of Hippodrome Square. It is located close to the Blue Mosque, St. Sophia, Topkapi Palace and The Grand Bazaar. All rooms are quiet small. Most of the rooms have a nice view of Hippodrome square and blue Mosque.

Great Location but could do better
Location is great - just across the Blue Mosque and a walking distance to the Sultanahmet tram stop.

Reasonable, the good point about this hotel is its location. We stayed in a triple room on the 1st floor which was very tight. The bathroom was also very small. Not sure if the higher floors rooms are bigger but we didn't mind the one flight of stairs to get to our room.
Breakfast - nothing to shout about. But you will get to enjoy the view of Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus Sea (and so does many other hotels in Old City!).
Walls are also thin so we could hear our neighbour opening and closing the wardrobe! Overall..it was an ok stay.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Grand Bazaar - 2 tram stops from Sultanahmet
Spice Bazaar - 3 or 4 tram stops from Sultanahmet
On a lovely day it would be nicer to walk.
Topkapi is worth the visit.

Exceptional location and great breakfast views
9.7
Very nice and comfortable hotel right on the edge of the Hippodrome square. You literally only had to cross the square to get to the tram and a transport link to anywehere in Istanbul, without having to climb any of the notorius hills of istanbul. We had a cosy spacious corner room on the fourth floor with excellent views on the Blue mosque. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast, all the normal goodies, very wide range and tasty. Views from the breakfast room towards Blue Mosque, AyaSofia and the sea of marmara were exceptional. Romantic atmosphere. The moment you go out of the hotel and see the Hippodrome you immediately get the feeling of space which would be impossible for many other hotels that enter from busy and narrow streets. We'll be glad to come back again anytime soon.
I ran the Istanbul marathon, and what a pleasue to be within 150m from the busses that take you to the start but even better less than 50 m from the finish. So you can shower and be back at the finish to mingle, social etc within 5 minutes.
We did not try it, we were on the go most of the time, but the ground floor has a restaurant now and it was quite busy most of the time, so it must have been good.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Don't bother with taxi's. Get an Istanbul card, get a transport map and ride the trams, metro and ferries like all the locals do. It was one of the top 10 things for me and extremely cheap and quicker than any taxi, starting with the Metro at the airport.

Needs to do regular checks to the rooms
4.7
Room was always hot, but we thought it just was the way it is (no heating on). One night we started hearing water drops, which turned out to be a constant pouring from several parts of the ceiling. Water coming down was boiling hot, so something must have been defective with the pipes. We did get changed to a different room that night, but there was no apology nor anything extra to compensate for. The guy in charge even seemed upset at me being upset. A shame since the location is really nice, but wouldn't go back.

Lovely, clean, hotel
Great location, clean, attentive staff

Highly recommend this hotel for travellers without kids. The rooms are a bit smaller than what you have in Western hotels that is why it may be slightly difficult with kids. But for aduts it is perfect. The best bang for the buck in Old Town Istanbul(Sultan Ahmet). Walking distance to all the old sites. Breakfast if fresh and with many options.

Nice location but, in need of an upgrade.
Very close to all of the major tourist attractions in the Old City of Istanbul.
5.7
the hotel staff, front desk, housekeeping and breakfast staff and very friendly.
the rooms are very small and a bit dingy with a bathroom that is so small it is almost non existent.
the rooms on the first floor do not have full size windows and have only dome shaped windows that reach the height of my waist (and i am not very tall).
