Very Big & Grand hotel in 4 star

Hotel is in good location which is just a few mins to the station. There are many good restaurants around. Hotel room is big, tidy and clean. It provides free wifi. Matress is comfortable. It's in a very good price. This is the best hotel I had ever stayed during my half month England trip. I will definely recommend this hotel.

Very impressive hotel but a bit tired Decor

i have just returned from a one night stay in the palace hotel with my husband . the building is incredibly impressive , very grand and imposing . it's location is ideal for exploring buxton and the local area , within walking distance of shops , bars and restaurants.
the reception staff were very friendly and we were quickly checked in . the hotel was extremely busy due to a wedding reception that day / evening , but this did not effect check in.
our room however did not live up to the grandeur of the building . it was small , old fashioned , no view ( roof tops ) and somewhat run down . all the facilities you would expect of a 4 * hotel where there , but paint chips , badly fitting windows and very noisy bathroom extractor where not as expected. unfortunately we were also laced in a room which seemed to be directly above the wedding function room . hence we had the very loud disco blaring till midnight .... this is something you need to be aware of if you are not art of the wedding party.
breakfast again was disappointing due to the 40 minute queue , due to obviuos understaffing . there were plenty of free tables , just full of dirty pots . there is a traffic light system in place to warn you of the busiest times but even so this was excessive , and with only 2 hrs for breakfast , we were hardly turning up at the last minute. we arrived at 9.15 and sat down at five to 10 , breakfast stopped at 10 !
in summary , a grand ok building , full of character and history . however in need of a bit of attention and beware if there is a wedding reception booked in .
