The hotel is located right in the heart of Edinburgh, making it a convenient place to stay if you enjoy walking around to see the sights. The staff was very courteous and the rooms very clean.
Because it is located so close to everything and on a very busy street, it can be loud at night if you are trying to sleep. (My room faced Shandwick)
If you are looking to stay in the heart of Edinburgh and if you enjoy walking around to see the sights, then I would highly suggest the Clarendon Hotel. This small hotel, located right on Shandwick that turns into Princes Street, is ideal. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. I was lucky to stay at the beginning of the festival during the first weekend of August. They were helpful with tips about the parade as well as places to see and eat.
The rooms are roomy by European standards and the bathroom was immaculate. My room rate came with breakfast with was the standard English breakfast, nothing fancy, but definitely fast and held me over until lunch. They have a nice bar but I never ended up using it because Rose Street is so close. The only drawback was being woken up at 4am by some drunken partiers singing on their way back to their hotel/home. Because the hotel is so close to everything, it can be loud, but overall this didn't bother me. I would stay there again given the location and value.
