Beautiful setting

This is a hotel that has real class - beautiful historic buildings, high ceilings, generous flowers everywhere, masses of attentive staff. The big disappointment was that they are just too aware that they are a classy place, and it often feels as if they are doing you a huge favour in allowing you to stay there. Despite all the lovely surroundings this is not a relaxing place to stay - you are too afraid of rumpling the cushions or spilling your drink. The charges are also outrageous - we have stayed in hundreds of hotels and have never been charged for ice before. £5 for a bucket of ice!! And although the food is delicious the portions are minute - this is the place for you if you are on a diet!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The location of this hotel is just wonderful, if you like walking or admiring the Sussex countryside. It is in the middle of the Ashdown Forest, the largest public forest preserve in the South East. And right next door is the Wych Cross Nursery and Garden Centre, an absolute must if you like gardens, and especially roses. This place has the largest collection of roses in Europe!
