great location, old but clean hotel.

The hotel is very close to railway station (less than 5 minutes walk) and you can walk to the city center and bus terminal. Ideal to commute to anywhere in Lancaster and other cities. The furniture is old but the room is clean. Great value.

Great location but hotel in need of general TLC
Fantastic location in the dead centre of Lancaster, shops and restaurants on the doorstep. Great old building could be truly amazing! Lovely cooked breakfast in the ballroom.

Fantastic location in the dead centre of Lancaster, shops and restaurants right on your doorstep (if you arrive in time - things close around 6 or 7pm on a Friday apparently!). The hotel itself is in a great old building that could be truly amazing but is now in need of some TLC! Cooked breakfast in the morning was lovely - especially impresssive served in the ballroom. Rooms are basic but clean and there is plenty of free parking behind the hotel.
A couple of negatives:
The lift is very old and tiny - yes it works but kind of scary! No food available in the hotel other than breakfast - not great if you arrive at dinner time and everything in town is shut! Having said that, there are takeaway delivery menus available if you don't mind burgers and pizza. Walls in the hotel are quite thin so you can hear folks in other rooms and the hallways, doors closing, etc. Apparently the one thing open late at night is the very loud live music pub across the street from the hotel which kept us up until 1am. Not the hotel's fault but would be great if the windows were more soundproof. In summary - this is an OK stopover point if you're just in and out for one night.
