stay was a good one -ruined by small details

We were enjoying our stay but the experience was marred by 2 things: On the last day, my boyfriend was eating breakfast when he found a hair on top of his food. Also the bath seemed to be spewing out drainage and a horrid smell would fill the room. If you get an internal room it will be quite pleasant and quiet as long as you don't mind tinted windows. Otherwise excellent location next to tube and within walking distance of Covent Garden etc.

Satisfactory. Noisy due to traffic

Location, breakfast, and staff.

Satisfactory. Was on 6th floor but could not get a good night's sleep due to noise from traffic below. Bathroom small and adjusting hot water in shower was inconvenient. Pity, as location and breakfast are very good. Internet overpriced for price paid for room. Will think twice before staying there again.

Beautiful classical building

Right on the Victoria and Piccadilly subway lines. The building is as beautiful as they come; Rooms are decent size, very well furnished and just perfectly clean. Lack of free wireless net is the only drawback I have found.

Poor service. The most annoying ones were; you have to pay 5 £ pr hour for internett access, with other words no free wifi which is common in most European hotels today. No loan of power adaptor, you have to pay for one. The breakfast was served in two differnt rooms due to many guests with considerable diffenences in what was offered at the breakfast buffets. Little if any help to get a cab. When this service was asked for, we got the answer that we could hail one at the street.

Friendly staff good service

Have stayed at this hotel twice before and yet again standards were met. Choice of hotel is mainly due to location and quality of hotel. Rooms are fairly small but not uncommon in central london. The lobby is very grand with a beautiful marble staircase.Breakfast is fairly limited in choice but waiting staff were very pleasant and efficient.Did not use any other facilities so unable to comment.

Turn of the century hotel with all mod cons

Was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room - I stayed in a twin room and the fact that I was facing a quiet street. The hotel is in a very central location right next door to Russell Square tube, and a short walk to shops and British museum and universities and the squares of Bloomsbury. The breakfast buffet is very good. The hotel itself is this great Victorian building with marble in the foyers. Only downside was an abrupt reception staff member who didn't seem to believe I had paid for breakfast - even after I pulled out a receipt!
Shopping Tip: the Brunswick Centre is across the road from the Hotel. It has a great supermarket and a nice selection of other shops and restaurants and is much quieter than Oxford St.

Small room,way over-priced,any and all extras charged,including internet usage and any hour additional stay after the midday check-out time. Typical of user-unfriendly London hotels and should be avoided wherever possible. Close to Russell Square underground station and good local shopping, but the offhand manner of staff, limited staff at Reception, small size of room and bathroom combine to make this a painful experience and one I would rather avoid in future.
Shopping Tip: Waitrose, other stores and restaurants /coffee shops at the nearby Brunswick shopping centre
