An affluent and densely-populated area, the heart of bustling Kensington lies in the market shops lining Kensington High Street, leading onto the large Royal Park of Kensington Gardens. Set inside the park is royal residence Kensington Palace – a residence of the British Royal Family since the 17th century, with its magnificent State Rooms open to the public.
Nearby, the Royal Albert Hall has been used for over 150,000 events, including rock and classical concerts, ballroom dancing, poetry recitals, conferences, education, motor shows, ballet, opera and circus shows.
In South Kensington, a number of small boutiques are clustered close to the tube station. The adjoining Exhibition Road links the area's educational institutions and museums, which include the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and the Victoria & Albert (V&A).
The less affluent Earls Court is home to one of England’s largest indoor arenas and a popular concert venue, Earls Court Exhibition Centre. A wide selection of budget and mid-range hotels is clustered nearby. The area has a large concentration of young Australian residents, attracted by its affordability and central location. With its many Asian restaurants, Earls Court Village has become the center of the Filipino British community.
Kensington and Earls Court are well-served by numerous tube stations and buses.
