Good value for money

I had found very bad comments about this hotel on the internet and was very suspicious whether my booking was a good decision or not. Forget about these bad comments! Pembridge Palace Hotel is not a rathole. Only 4 tube stations away from Oxford Circus and a 10 mins walk from Queensway resp. Bayswater station, we arrived at a simple Bayswater Hotel in a quiet side street. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room tiny and simple, but clean (with a nice hot shower) and the breakfast sufficient (good coffee is always hard to find in the UK). The room was cleaned every day. My girlfriend, her 12-year old daugther and I stayed there for five nights and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is a perfect base for London sightseeing because it is located in the heart of the city. It is certainly not a 5 star residence, but a 5 star hotel is not available for the money you pay. Pembridge Palace Hotel is a good place for the money you spend.

the single room is small but comfortable. the private bathroom is a good surprise as it is brand new and clean.
breakfast is included ans is great.
unfortunately, the receptionists were just polite and far from being friendly. hopefully the service team is welcoming.
charging for wifi is unacceptable.

great location close to the park,
only minus was that the room was a bit small but for the price it was over all great value, and i will return again!!!

No W-Lan in the Rooms available, rooms are very small and if you are unlucky your bathroom and toilets are on the basement. I didnt have a clean overall feeling in the whole hotel.

apart from the good location near the bayswater station, the hotel was more than disappointing, no way this is a three star hotel. the room is unbelievable small, the bathroom is outside of the room, i actually had to go a few steps down to reach it. this was not communicated to me when i booked the room. my blanket was old and had hairs all over it. ditto the sheets. between the door and the floor there was a 1 inch gap which i had to stuff with newspapers in order to sleep. the staff is neither friendly nor helpful. the hotel offers the bare essentials, it is for me overpriced when looking at the bare essentials of comfort that they offered.
the breakfast offers no choice and ends at 9:30, when most hotels have it until 11 or so, considering they had no restaurant, they could easily keep the breakfast room open a little longer.
I will stop here, but i do not recommend the hotel, unless they cut them down prices, i guess a budget traveler would be willing to sacrifice comfort to save a few pounds.

The rooms is a shoebox where you can touch all 4 walls at the same time, however, if your remote doesn't work (like ours) you only have to sit up in bed to turn the tv channel on the 'far' wall, so that's kind of convenient, isn't it? they provided us with a full sized kettle which seemed foolishly large on the miniature table, and again, conveniently, I could pour tea whilst not getting out of bed. Brilliant!
The toilet / bath was actually newly refurbished so it was very clean, with some excellent improvisation on behalf of the plumber to get the water from tap to shower head (I'd have shot the plumber if it was in my own house) but I only wished they'd invested in new bed sheets instead as these are manky. It's less fabric than a standard double bed... because the double beds are smaller than double beds.
Actually I was pretty horrified rooms here go for over 100 pounds. We paid 70 per night and I felt thoroughly ripped off, but I didn't die here AND having seen other reviews in the same street where guests have huge bed bug welts, I end up glad that we stayed there. There's something comforting about a small rabbit hole of a room where you can't open doors fully because they hit the bed, and the single glazing window that the bed is up against lets a gentle breeze blow against your skin, isn't there? And after all, the guy at the desk did give me new batteries for the remote. I can't be all that grumpy.
Can someone please let me know if there's a hotel in London where you don't feel horribly ripped off?

If sometimes you feel like a small person in a big world, stay in one of these hotel rooms where all the furniture is made slightly small to make you feel like a very big giant.

While the Hotel was clean and tidy my room was very small and I was very disappointed to find that I had to go down to flights of stairs to my toilet and shower also the breakfast while adequate lacked choice,

There is no way this is a 3-star hotel, it perhaps marginally above a 1-star hostel, maybe 1-star hotel. The room apparently came with a shower, but it was not in the room, but it was down 3 steps and across the corridor. Albeit, it was a nice bathroom, but it was not connected to the room, therefor description was wrong. There were a few unruly customers staying here, hanging out of the windows smoking and drinking into the early hours, so do expect a bit of noise, although I think I got lucky, only because I stayed up later than they did. There was not enough space in the room to swing a cat, it was about 5-6m2 max, I normally would expect 20-25m2 min, living in Asia, so you can see why I found it too small.
Travel tip:
O.k if on a budget, but still overpriced

Was working till 6am so only slept for 3 hrs.
Continental breakfast was poor although they cleared tables quickly.
It was advertised as a Basic room, which it was, would not have paid anymore though.
At he end of the day you pay for what you get.
Would stay again if on a tight budget.
