Radnor Hotel, London

When we booked this hotel it was listed as a "three-star" hotel. My wife and I were scheduled to stay here for two nights. Before we walked in, I observed hotel staff on the steps smoking ... making the smoke unavoidable ... something I found to be unprofessional. We walked up one flight of stairs just to get to the registration desk and lobby. The entryway and registration area/lobby were cluttered, dirty and in poor repair. The first room we were given was up two additional floors (we had to carry our luggage up the stairs with no offer to help from staff). This first room was very small and not well maintained. The very small bathroom had no functioning light. There was a rocker switch above the doorway into the bathroom that activated an exhaust fan, and possibly was supposed to turn on a very small recessed light in the bathroom ceiling ... but only the fan worked. I am average height, but had to stand on my toes just to reach the switch above the bathroom door. Never-the-less, all it did was turn on an exhaust fan. We returned to the desk to complain, and were immediately given a second room ... this one was up (at least) one more flight of stairs. While hotel staff accompanied us up to the second room, no offer was made to help move our luggage. After looking in the bathroom, we discovered that there was NO toilet seat! (My wife had observed a tooilet seat on one of the old couches in the registration area ... no, this is NOT a classy place!!). When my wife returned to the registration desk to complain again, and we were moved again ... this time to a room in the basement. At least this time, staff helped move the luggage. The third room was somewhat larger than the first two (very small and very hot) rooms we had previously been assigned, but it was also in a very poor state of repair.
