Excellent location; efficient staff.
Oldness meant that our wooden floors were creaky -- I hope we didn't disturb those below when we walked. We didn't hear any creaking from he floor above (eighth).
The Tavistock represents good value for money (by London standards). It is an older establishment but its location is great. It is clean, has medium-small rooms, a good basic continental or hot breakfast (the continental was included in our booking) and its staff (front desk, porters, restaurant) were all helpful and efficient. With its closeness to the Heathrow tube (Picadilly line) it served as an excellent arriving/departing hotel for our European holiday. We would use it again.

Great value, good location
Decor not great, lumpy beds, very noisy as walls are thin so you can hear people talking in the hallway and rooms next door.
Great value for money, great location which I found quite safe to walk around at at night, this is a basic budget hotel though. The beds were not that comfortable (I could feel the springs!!) and walls are thin so you can hear people coming back late at night. I chose this hotel for the great rate as I needed something just for one night in central London after a party for the early hours, so it was perfect for my requirements. Wouldn't recommend for longer stays or people looking for comfort, but great as a cheap and cheerful one/two nights option.

Location and accessibility to transportation.
No wireless internet in the room.
This is my 5th time to visit London but I must say that this changes my normally depressing experience. The weather was unexpectedly fantastic. Tavistock - our first however, it afforded us a very reasonable accessible location - everywhere were just a bus ride away. Nearby are good restaurants. The staff are cordial and very helpful - small things like giving water on their own at 4 am while working in the lobby. The only drawback - no wireless in the room.
Nightlife Tip : Theatres are all just a bus ride away - Trafalgar square for exhibitions, Soho and China town - haven of food. Buddha Bar is a must for dining.
