A unique and extraordinary place!

The extraordinary hospitality from the owners, the exquisite rooms, the fab food.
This was one of my most memorable travelling experiences. Steeped in history, this fabulous fort is everything you'd expect from a family of royal lineage and we loved hearing the wonderful stories from our hosts and owners Mr Singh and his son Ajay. For anyone interested in the history of India this is a 'must see' destination. The staff made us feel like royalty, our suite was very comfortable with original features, and the food was truly delicious. We were treated to a tour of the fort and to the hauntingly beautiful Lake Palace - which is currently a ruin - for which the owners have great plans, and where we enjoyed a stunningly beautiful sunset whilst sipping drinks on one of the balconies. When we left after only 2 nights it felt like we were saying goodbye to old friends.

A glimpse of history and splendour

The enchantment of Fort Begu itself, the passion and commitment to excellence of Mr Singh, his son Ajay and all of their staff and the quality of the food
My stay in Fort Begu will be an unforgettable and rich experience - from the moment of warm welcome by Mr Singh and his son Ajay until the last minute of the stay. Everything is unique: Fort Begu itself with his impressive history and family stories told by Mr Singh and Ajay, the room which was an expression of stunning comfort in a living museum and the food which is undoubtedly the best I have eaten in India. My hosts were dedicated to my well being and their commitment was beyond what somebody could expect. Mr Singh is a passionate story teller and guide around the estate which gives you a glimpse of what position it held in the history of Rajastan and of the splendour of ruling families. Every minute I stayed in Fort Begu was truly special and I hope to go back again some day soon.

Quite unforgettable

The people (everyone involved was giving it their all), the building (and in particular our beautiful room), and the food (which was excellent Rajput domestic cooking and not at all norm
The owners were exceptionally hospitable, interesting and amusing; they talked quite captivatingly about the history of the fort and their family, and showed us round everything which infectious enthusiasm. Begu is quite out of the way (though only an hour's drive from Chittor), but we were shown a range of local sights, including a fascinating summer palace nearby. The family are in the process of restoring a very significant fort and palace within, and even the more ruined portions are very beautiful and charming. The small town around it is interesting and exceptionally friendly. The staff are engaging and very eager to please. All in all a very powerful and memorable experience.

Priceless gem that raises service to a new level

(1) The highest level of personal service we have ever experienced (2) The location(s) of the fort and lake palace with such historiacal interest (3) Everything was perfect
Fort Begun is truly a gem. We felt more like personal house guests of a Maharaja than hotel patrons. Even our driver was looked after with such care. From the moment we arrived we were looked after with personal oversight of the family owners and their attentive staff. If we had planned for a perfect holiday, we could not have done it better ourselves. You had to ask for nothing. Every little detail, adventure, visit, treat was already anticipated by our hosts from flowers and petals adorning the dining table, a visit to the lakeside with table and chairs in the tower to view the sunset, the camp fire dinner, to a personal tour round the Fort and many wonderful conversations with the family who shared their fascinating histories and made us feel like members of the family - honoured personal guests. After visiting over 70 countries and 1000's of hotels across the world, I can honestly say with experience that no other place I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world has ever shown so much GENUINE and sincere interest in their guests and in ensuring their happiness. A truly memorable experience of a lifetime which we would love to repeat. If you could award 6 stars or more they would merit it.

A full-on amazing experience

Food magnificent, Personal service, Heritage property
A unique experience especially as we were the only people staying there (it was off-season). The family absorb you into their fort and into their life and it was a very full-on experience. They are lovely people and could not have been nicer to us, making sure we were comfortable at every turn and had everything we need. The fort is a magnificent crumbling palace which makes up in charm and quirkiness what it lacks a little in finishing touches. Our suite, the best we think, was large and beautiful with everything we needed and the meals were amazing (the best we have had anywhere in India by quite some way). If you want a true Indian experience then this is for you but it's certainly not a luxury 'resort'. We visited Bundi which is beautiful and had a magnificent palace with fascinating wall paintings and also the Menali temples which are 11th century and brilliant to see.

Amazing Hotel, a Must see for India

Food was Amazing, Rooms were comfortable and the whole hotel/fort had amazing Character
Our stay here was amazing. This is an old 15th Century fort that is family owned and they are doing it up into an amazing and unique hotel. Hotel is run by the actual Maharajah and staff. The food (breakfast/lunch/dinner) was always amazing and was proper Rajasthan Indian food. The staff are superb and always willing to help. Basically if you are in the region you have to stay here!!
