cozy but over price

Private onsen & near to the Glass museum
We have booked Quadruple room which is for 4 persons as our room rate already higher than 2 person. But they need to charge additional due to some condition not clearly stated in or agora. Please definitely indicate the number of person when booking. With this room price, we feel they should at least include simple breakfast. Owner friendly.

a nice experience of Japanese tatami room

superb window view, reasonable price, and helpful hosts who speak fluent English
My girlfriend and I booked the place immediately when we saw it since both of us wanted to stay in a traditional Japanese style tatami room with hot spring, and we are quite happy about our choice. The inn was opened in 1984. It is not a luxury place, but comfortable, clean, and quiet. The hosts speak fluent English and were very helpful. One of them told us that because of 30 years of experience, they know more about what visitors need and how to help them. The inn is not far from major tourist sites in Hakone. It took us about 12 minutes by bus to reach 桃源台 from the inn. There are two Lawson shops near the inn, and one of them is just around the corner. We spent 20 minutes on foot to get to one restaurant they recommended. Although it was a little bit of walk, we really love the food there. We booked the cheapest room of the inn. The design of the room is simple, but the view is gorgeous, and there is a table by the window where we can eat some snacks and enjoy the view. As for the hot spring, compared with Arima onsen in Kobe, the hot spring is not as hot, but warm enough, which is suitable for people who want to try it for the first time. The inn provides traditional Japanese robe yukata, which gives visitors a chance to experience an important part of Japanese onsen culture.

Perfect guest house in Hakone

Accommodating staff, ryokan experience, indoor hot bath
Our stay was perfect. There were 5 of us, split into a room of 3 and a couple in another room. the staff speak English, which is great, and they were very accommodating. It felt like visiting a relative in the province in terms of warmth and hospitality. Location is good, I guess, as the bus stop is within a 2-3 minute walk from the house. We did not try the breakfast (bec it was Western--would've been a different story if the offering was Japanese breakfast) but there's a convenience store nearby (Lawson) where you can buy treats/snacks that you'd normally find in 7-11 or Family Mart. This is the perfect place if you wish to spend the night in Hakone!

Overnight stay with toddler

Location near to main bus routes, basic but comfortable room & futons, in house & outdoor hot spring pool baths.
Overnight stay with 1 toddler. Had to pay extra for the toddler although this was not mentioned in Agoda's booking system. Outdoor hot bath also requires extra for private use. Location is nearby the main bua routes, and walking distance to several attractions and restaurants. Comfortable futons in the room. Overall, a good experience.

Private baths, sound of the river, helpful staff
Lovely room with big fluffy comforters, staff recommended a nearby temple that was magical with hundreds of statues in the woods. Town had several good restaurants. Bus stop on the corner gave easy access to sights in the Hakone area.
