Charming hotel but needs refurbishment
I have stayed at this hotel every year since I discovered it in 2010. It is very charming, the rooms large and the location is excellent. Sadly, no refurbishment has been carried out since I first stayed there. The rooms are now worn. The walls need repainting, limestone removed in the bathrooms etc. I can still recommend it but the value is not as good as it used to be.

Large rooms, good room design and decor, aging and poorly maintained
The rooms are very spacious and the bed was giant (even wider than it is long). Housekeeping and cleanliness was not perfect, found alot of dust around the bed everyday. Non-smoking hotel is a plus. Location is 5-10min to Hengshan station and 15-20mins through the park to XuJiaHui which is a pleasant walk. Included breakfast is western and limited. Staff are friendly and some speak decent english.

A Secret in Shanghai
I always stay here when I visit Shanghai. This hotel doesn't fit the mould. It has a bit of a family feeling and the rooms are so large and comfortable that many of the guests are foreigners who live permanently in the hotel. If you want to feel more than just "a number" in Shanghai, this is recommendation after years of searching.

5 star, you kidding?
location, space
Second stay at this hotel since my last about a year ago. Condition has drastically deteriorated, found hair in the shower, plenty of it, very dirty room, couple of spiders, broken drawers, air conditioner that blew dust out and was very obvious to the eye, noise, the list goes on...
