Enjoyed paradise in all comfort and tranquility
Beautiful styled villas on a private white sandy beach
We got a complimentary upgrade to a beach front pool villa for our 5 nights stays. This made the daily decision between hotel beach and our own pool just a few steps away from the beach a truly difficulty one.
The villa had a beautiful bathroom with tub and shower outside. Also one could get a stunning view on the sunset from the terrace. A lot of details like beach bags provided or breakfast right on the beach helped us to enjoy our stay even more.
Only downside might be that there isn't much around the hotel (or anywhere on the island) so one is basically relying on the hotel services for food and activities. There are only some very small local shops nearby. However food was good, though for Thailand a bit pricey. We weren't interested in doing any organized trips from the hotel. However there is a diving operator who does trips to the surrounding islands. One could also rent motor bikes.
There wasn't any evening entertaining but there was a library for renting dvds.
If you plan to get away from everything this is the perfect place.

Most rooms have ocean views
Expensive compared to similar properties on Phuket itself, but worth the extra for the location. Koh Yai a loverly island, very friendly locals. Staff at the resort mostly have little english, but the manager was easy to understand. Some maintance needed but being done in the off season.

Fabulous location and a true gem
location, ambience, accommodation, hotel design, NO beds on the beach just deck chairs which was perfect, availability of scooters
this was a true find in a fabulous location on an undeveloped island. if you are trully looking to get away from it all, this is the place to come. one of the unique highlights was that the beach had been left to be a beach, no beds lined up and groomed sand, it was as it should be and we were delighted to find some natural beauty rather made for tourists. the view from the bungalow and from the outdoor restaurant was breathtaking, the water was crystal clear and shallow so ample snorkelling and swimming in safety. this was exactly as promised a true gem adn we will be returning soonest.

don"t be fooled!
quiet, nice rooms, friendly staff
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon. Luckily it was the first 3 nights and all we wanted to do was sleep. Don't be fooled by the picture online.
First, we were put on a 1.5 hr water taxi ride (which we paid for) where we litterally sat on rice bags and other transports, only to be dropped off on the far side of the island and have to take another 30 minute car ride to the resort. I was told it was dry docked for low season (We went two weeks before Start of high season...you would think it would be available) and to top it off we were charged 800 bht/person...for what?? I could have taken a taxi and ferry for less.
Second, the resort of fairly run down. Half of it looked like it was still damaged from the Tsunami, but then when I asked...Yai Yao was not even effected??
Last, and most damaging...there was tons of trash on the beach and in the water. We could not even go in the ocean. We were told that it was due to the rain and it washed up from Phuket and that all places were like that. let me tell you...thats false...this was the ONLY trash we saw in all of Thailand (and we went to Phuket, Railay, and Phi Phi)
On a plus side the staff was friendly and the rooms were nice. Its really sad that they let on to be something they are not.

Quiet and close to nature
Execellent food, actually the best Thai food we had during our trip in Thailand. Very personal and kind treatment from the resident director and staff.
We stayed 4 nights at Elixir during low season with two children aged 6 and 9. We were upgraded to a pool sea front bungalow, which had a beautiful sea view and made our children's dream come true og having their own pool. We felt close to nature and close to the Thai people because of the kindness of the staff and a round trip on the island to see local way of life.

Deception!!!! dont go
If like peace and quiet but expect to be ripped off!
For the price not worth it, there are so many beautiful hotels in thailand alot cheaper, with better people and more atmosphere. To go on boat trip who have to rely on the hotle scuba diving team who cahge like £70 for a day out to see other islands!! overpriced but stuck there no other choice.

Elixir Resort Koh Yao is located absolute beachfront. Our pool villa overlooked the sea to Phuket Island, which was very nice.
The staff at Elixir are really friendly, kind and helpful.
It was great to find a 4 star hotel on a relatively undeveloped island so close to Phuket, and the meals at the hotel were very nice.
The hotel is surrounded by native vegetation and it was really interesting to see wild monkeys playing on the beach.
Elixir Resort Koh Yao is a really nice place to stay. It was great to find a resort with most amenities on a relatively undeveloped island, but so close to Phuket.
We observed many species of wildlife near the resort, which was really interesting, but none of these animals came anywhere near people to be of any concern whatsoever to guests who prefer wildlife to remain at a distance. The monkeys were really cute to watch, but were very timid and ran back into the bush if anyone approached them.
It is really quite inexpensive to travel from Phuket to Koh Yao Yai by longtail boat (1 hour from Bang Rong Pier) or speedboat (30 minutes) and there are many ferries available each day.
If you want to visit a tropical island which is relatively untouched by inappropriate commercialisation and retains much of it's native vegetation, then this is a great island and resort to spend time in. It is very quiet compared to Phuket, but there are still plenty of interesting things to see and do.
There is a really nice restaurant serving seafood and other dishes a few kilometres from Elixir Resort. It overlooks rice paddies and is very cheap with very good food. The staff are very warm and welcoming. You will have to settle for soft drinks or coconut juice though, as they do not serve alcoholic beverages.

Little piece of paradise
-Very quiet paradisiac location
-Did I say amazing staff?
I was very pleased with the Elixir resort. After a long boat, then cab ride, I was sort of getting worried. Let me tell you this, the resort is in the middle of nowhere. So if you're looking for shopping, partying, or trying out restaurants, forget about it, this hotel is not for you.
However, if you're looking for a little piece of paradise, you've found it. The resort is straight on the beach. It's amazing. Each villa has its own little pool if you don't want to get all sandy, and the villas themselves are just amazing. The place was big, luxurious, and warm. As for the staff, they're all perfect. They are your average Thai staff, very friendly, helpful and cute with their poor English, but there was really something standing out with the Elixir resort. I booked an extra day, and they charged it to me for the same price Agoda charged, which is nearly impossible to get as usually hotels will do everything to get more money off you. Most of the staff was also amazingly and shockingly good looking, which is always interesting.
Money wise, the hotel is a bit pricy at time. SInce you're in the middle of nowhere, and most likely to eat there, get your Thai massage there, and all your expanses there, they know they can charge you extra and get away with it. Reassure yourself though, it's not that bad. It's still cheaper than your average North American or European hotel.
Location wise, like I already covered, the location is paradisiac, but really isolated. Up to you to choose wether that's what you want or not.
Food wise, the food was really good, except maybe for the breakfast. Most Asian hotels including breakfast will have it under the form of a buffet. The Elixir gives you a menu, with a very narrow selection, and small portion. It's not that it's bad, it's just a little less than other hotels I guess.
Utilities wise, Agoda says rooms have internet access, but my villa didn't. There was internet on location, but I had to go to the lobby, which wasn't really use
Hotel Feature Tip:
Try their Thai massages, they're amazing!

very nice gardens
simple but nice design
This is a good place to relax and calm down.
Even during CNY, there was plenty of private space
