The Gran Hotel Bolivar Lima has the distinction of being one of the hotels which accommodated Ernest Hemingway during his time in Lima. Built in the early 1920’s but recently renovated, the first sight upon arrival are the elegant glass dome ceiling and the grand staircase, which still contains lovely touches of bygone eras such as the parquet floors. Windows open to a magnificent view of the San Martin Square below. Built to receive foreign dignitaries, the hotel is now a Cultural Heritage site. Guests can enjoy their complimentary breakfasts at the hotel’s rooftop garden or take a nice morning dip in the nearby pool. Faded glory but great value for money.

Stayed for 3 nights in the Presidential Suite. It has seen better days but the rooms were huge and gave a feel of what it must have been like in it's full pomp. One large balcony and 2 smaller ones, The bedroom balcony looking out on to the Plaza St Martin. The air conditioning could have worked more efficiently, the breakfasts could have had more variety and the receptionists could have pretended to care a bit more. However the hotel was well worth the stay and was great value. Not sure where else we could have had this experience and a taste of this sort of hotel at the price we paid. One thing to be aware of, many protest are held in and around the Plaza some of these can erupt into violence and you could end up with tear gas in the rooms - as we did. Another part of a unique experience:)

The hotel is located in downtown Lima which is very convenient to travel. However, the hotel is very old and in need of renovation. The bed is very small and not comfortable at all.

Great location but a little past her prime

Worth staying here even if the beds were hard and we had no hot water for several hours. Spacious rooms and a sense of grandeur from times past.

Old style hotel at old city center

Location, spacious unit, but really old style
7.3
Staff is friendly. You might want to request a room facing the inside "courtyard". I had a room facing the busy road, super loud. I complained and was changed to a very quiet room facing inside, also a free upgrade to a suit having a living room. The room is REALLy spacious, even for the first room(not suit). The bath room is especially big, similar to the ones you saw in the luxury house in the 1930's. But it is VERy old style. I don't like it , but ok to stay there for 2 nights. The water was hot and plenty. Breakfast is very nice, served in a hotel restaurant. Location is good , on the San Martin square.

Besides the hard bed, everything was fantastic. We loved its history and center location and great Pisco Sours. A very good breakfast to start our day off was also included in the price.

Historic Hotel - Close to Major Attractions

This is a great base to explore the city's historic sites. It was exactly as we expected based on the reviews. It was a bit worn, but more than made up for it in charm. The sounds of the city added to the feeling of being someplace new and exciting. The staff was very helpful in arranging and early morning airport transfer and even had a boxed breakfast for us to take. It was a short walk to the historic center of town and we enjoyed the contrast to Miraflores, where we also stayed. The restaurant has a nice bar to try a Pisco Sour!
