Good but not great

Enjoyed our stay very much but did not sleep that well the first 2 nights because of noisy neighbours. Although room looked great the sound insulation was below average which meant we heard staff and other guests throughout night and early evening.

Unpleasant Experience

Beautiful landscaping

Lack of hospitality, poor service, food and beverage below par, and snobbish general manager who doesn't care.

Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua

Immaculate Gardens. Great staff. Ideal location
8.3
When you travel to Bali, you have 4 "options" for your journey . 1. West Coast - Kuta/Seminyak/Jimbaran. Busy, bustling, noisy - ideal if you want to party. Not great if you want to relax and avoid crowds and horrible, horrible traffic. The exception is Jimbaran- where Ayana/Rimba and Four Seasons and Intercontinental offer excellent options. 2. Inland/North - Ubud . Beautiful, green, stunning - ideal for detox and retreat, but not great if you want beaches and some form of entertainment other than the resort. 3. South - Uluwatu. 6 star. Some of the most stunning resorts on earth. - perfect for honeymooners and the ultra rich. Horribly isolated though, with poor road access, so if you want to get away from the resort you should expect to spend hours driving to and from . This is where you stay for 3-4 days if you want stunning views and beautiful resorts, but its also where you leave after 3-4 days because you start to get cabin fever from the isolation and you want to see the real Bali. 4. South East - Nusa Dua. The perfect balance. A vast array of choices from 3.5-6 star. All accessible along walking paths that link 3-4 beach fronts and many many of the better resorts in Bali, and with the Bali Collection shops/restaurants and the Bali Bay restaurants all there, it's everything you need for a week or two of bliss. You dont have the same issues as other beaches- overcrowded, dirty, hassled by people trying to sell you things, but it's still very close to Jimbaran if you want to get great seafood , Kuta or Seminyak if you want wild bars, or Uluwatu for day trips to some of the best beaches on earth. Bali National golf course is also there So the question is - where to stay in Nusa Dua. Unless you want to spend big bucks at St Regis , Grand Hyatt is by far the best resort I've stayed at in Bali.

Needs to Improve

Location, gardens and staff

Always wanted to try this hotel but left with mixed feelings. Booked a club room. Pros Location is one of the best - beachfront, Nusa Dua gardens, next to Bali Collection (excellent). Staff were friendly and attentive. Beach was clean. Hotel gardens are beautiful. Club area was pretty (pond with fish, birds and Darwinian actions) but I did expect ocean views. Cons It has to be said that the club room was very tired and long overdue for a refurbishment (no better than the Melia which is far cheaper). Club breakfast and evening snacks + drinks was disappointing (need to learn from Shangri La hotels how to offer quality but control costs): very limited food choices, low quality wine, cold drinks such as white wine served too warm. Many guests were requesting ice to cool their wine or beers. The staff are doing a good job but they just need to improve the quality and range of F&B. One other point, club privileges offer soft drinks all day (this is good) but not at the pool or beach areas - you have to go all the way back to the club area which is quite a distance to make it impractical - come on - if you are going to offer a benefit then don't play tricks. When checking out from the club, we pulled our bags up the hill to the main entrance before someone offered to help. I saw this on several occasions during my stay. This is very unbecoming of the Grand Hyatt. On reflection, the "pros" have left me with a good impression, though the "cons" would see me choose another hotel in the Nusa Dua area.

Fantastic. My only complaint was one of the restraunts was closed so there was One less breakfast venue and this caused major overcrowding and long waits for breakfast. One staff member yelled at me when a waiter seated me at a table as she had given it too another family. I could not believe I was yelled at. Not good enough for the Hyatt. I simply got up and left. Our stay was fantastic other than the few stressed staff we encountered.
