Lovely hotel, great buffet, great staff,

Buffet, staff, in house bakery.
8.7
this is not the mandarin oriental as i thought when booking. rather it is a hotel which is part of the mandarin chain. it is not as big and flashy but is a lovely hotel and was cheaper than the other big flashy casino hotels.

Understated elegance in the Mandarin tradition

great service, elegant and not gaudy

Most hotels in Macau have gone towards the glitzy and gaudy. The Grand Lapa is a relief from the noise of casinos and fake glamour. Elegant and comfortable, it provides a lovely base from which to explore or do business in the city-- downtown is close by, along with major attractions, without being overwhelmed in the thick of the gambling craze.

we were walking most of the time , a bit out of the way but overall o.k . .I went with 2 children n an old granny , behind the hotel there is a local restaurant, serve good food n resonable price, basically if cross the bridge from the main entrance , there r some restaurants , good food n resonable price as well , the room is not fantastic cause the deco r old , but clean n tidy , no wifii , internet expensive,( I didn't use it , but I checked the price), honestly speaking , I like the staffs , friendly , helpful n warm ,nothing to complaints about the staffs , if I have a better choice , will not stay there because of no wifii, internet expensive n the room deco r old .
Restaurant Tip: a few local n portuguese restaurants nearby, if cross the bridge from the main entrance ,there r some residential building ,one of the portuguese restaurant is good n reasonable price.

Classic Hotel

Proximity to the pier, relatively convenient

hotel staff was excellent. however, the room were old and desparately needs renovation. it is not up to the standards of other mandarin oriental hotels. compared to the price i paid, the value of money is not high.
Restaurant Tip: Go to Porto Extirico for dinner

Old stand-by next to ferry terminal

Location

although refurbished about 5 years ago, walking into the grand lapa is like stepping into a time machine and arriving at macao circa 1990. well maintained and renovated, the interior decor, colors, and style is a very tired mandarin oriental kitsch that hasn't changed in 30 years. while it may have some nostalgia value to long time travelers to macau, its obvious that the mandarin oriental management has moved onto the new mo located behind the mgm and left this one frozen in time. while service is generally good and the cafe bella vista and thai restaurants are good, the check-in/check-out system seems to be also left over from 30 years ago as it is incredibly slow and inefficient.

Extremely friendly staff

Near the harbour, near Wynn Hotel so there are free buses to most places in Macau from Wynn.
8.3
We were given a low floor room with no view. Room was decently sized and comfortable. Staff were extremely friendly, giving us tips on where to go in Macau and telling us to take the free buses from Wynn Hotel location next door. Hotel was supposed to be renovated but that hasn't been done. Hotel bus from harbour arrives every 20mins but there are no signs to point you to the waiting point.
