Expensive, old, and you pay for Internet!!

Breakfast was good

Way over priced! This is an old hotel and just not up to the new macau standard. Paying for the Internet was the last straw ... that is a Motel requirement, not a prestige Hotel! I won't be staying there again.

Superior service for our second stay

Great service, good breakfast
8.3
We had stayed here before on an overnight break from Hong Kong and had no hesitation in returning; we weren't disappointed. Last time we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite - I still don't know why - but this time we paid for an upgrade to a sea view room with breakfast and free Internet. The hotel isn't oriented around a casino: there is one attached, but it's small and quiet. What does make it stand out is excellent service, from the doorman to the wait staff to the concierge. The rooms are comfortable, the buffet breakfast was excellent, the Internet service works well (too often not the case). It was raining so we didn't use the pool but it looked excellent. It's next door to Sands if you want that big casino thing, and walkable to the other Macau island casinos. It's very close to the Macau terminal, too.
Restaurant Tip: You can't go to Macau and not try Fernando's, but for American expats, look out for the Dairy Queens (there's one just down from the St Paul's ruin).

Great hotel away from hustle & bustle of TourGoups

Nice Pool and water slide, great for kids
6.7
overall, the stay was very pleasant and would stay here again if we came back to macao. on the positive side, this hotel is away from the gambling centric tour groups and caters more to family holiday getaways. the gym and pool are great. the water slide in the pool is a nice addition when travelling with children. dont expect too much from the "a hotel by mandarin oriental" tag.the rooms are older and a bit more tired from what you would expect from a mandarin hotel. the concierge was really helpful and went out of his way to get dinner reservations for us.
Shopping Tip: Head to Hong Kong for shopping. What little there is in Macao tends to be expensive.

outdoor facilities
6.3
Good service, excellent swimming pool with slide, good kids' activities, e.g., cycling, mini-golf, and kids' rooms. However, the hotel is a bit old, the beds are too small, much too small than average hotel beds. Other facilities, e.g., TV is too old, not enough channels, even the bedside lamp didn't work properly. Most important of all, no free wi-fi.

2nd time but was not good as first time

Nice relax hotel for business and pleasure
7.3
Service at counter was slow this time. Counter at staff are too few during peak and takes a long time before you are check in. Attention of certain counter staff pays more attendtion to colleagues who are having issue (looks like not prepared for the crowd) and hence neglecting customer
Shopping Tip: Good range of branded goods at hotel lobby

Great mandarin style in a lovely environment

Staff service, pool area, spa, intimate atmosphere
9.3
we have stayed at the grand lapa on several occasions and always enjoy this quiet oasis in the middle of the frenetic macau mega hotel/casino world. the rooms are traditional upscale mandarin in style. a little smaller than in newer hotels, but comfortable and well appointed. the staff were superb, from the greet staff at the ferry terminal to the front of house, spa and pool staff. they make guests feel as if they are the most special visitor of the day. a nice touch in a busy city! the pool area and spa are superb ... great for a couple of sixty year olds to be able to enjoy the water slide!!!
Nightlife Tip: A pleasant stroll through the bar district (developing more and more each visit)takes you to the big MGM, Wynn and Lisboa casinos. It's also easy to get to other casinos, but the hotel maintains a quiet atmosphere, even with The Sands next door. Also very convenient to the various historic sites of Macau.
