Nice hotel in good spot

Opposite the jetty and beach
Was a nice hotel, there are ocean views on 3 sides and we ended up on the side with no view, rooms are basic and only has a double bed not a queen which we needed as husband is very tall. That said it was a relaxing weekend in a beautiful spot

Good location with poor basic facilities

Bad experience for a 4 star hotel. Worst ever!! The room was very hot like living in an oven. There was no air-condition facilities during the hot summer breeze! I will never recommend this hotel to anyone especially during summer.

Beautiful Hotel with Great View

Fantastic bed
The hotel is a landmark of Lorne with great view. The room is small but clean. And the bed is fantastic for a good night.

Magnificent location, moderate room

One of the prime locations on the Great Ocean Road, great ocean views, decent restaurant
we chose this hotel on the basis of photos of its fabulous location and fine exterior and the general location. however, our gloomy allocated room had no external window, so we asked for a change. the new room had a lovely ocean view, but was tiny, with barely room to open a case, let alone two. also it was absolutely plain - off white without any pictures or alleviating decoration and rudimentary furniture. however, the bed was fine and the view compensated. generally the hotel has a faded grandeur about it. somewhat run-down, but with plenty of potential to aspire to classy. we had a nice walk into town along a coastal path on our first evening and on the second a memorable meal on the hotel terrace looking over the bay. so an enjoyable stay overall.

Great location but small rooms

Great location to view the ocean.
the location of this hotel is 10 to 15 minuets away from the centre of lorne, but is close to the place for surfing, fishing or just hiking alongside the ocean. the room is small, but the bed is cosy. the bathroom is good and clean. thus, the room is just for resting, not for any other activities. the service of the hotel is ok. people around are friendly.

Friendly hotel with great location

location, helpful staff, restaurant was good value, wonderful old building with large balcony giving great sea views
the hotel was built in the 1860's. that meant no lifts etc. we really enjoyed our stay. the staff went out of their way to be helpful and there was a courtesy bus that took you into the centre of lorne although it was only an easy 15 minute would even come amd cllect you up to 10pm.the resaurant had tasty meals at a good price. rooms are only average although the great shared balcony made up for the size. we paid extra for an ocean view room and were pleased we did.

Main hotel unsuitable for infants

Accomodating service
we booked a room in the grand pacific hotel while doing the great ocean road. we were traveling with our 8 month old son and have our own travel cot so booked a room for 2 people only. on arrival we were told by a rather brusque man (who kept irritatingly referring to it as "his hotel" and i am pretty sure he wasn't the owner) that because of insurance and fire regulations it would be impossible for us to stay in the room we had booked. he explained that the only other room available was a 3 bedroom apartment. i was all ready to be told it was going to cost another and it was 6 pm, so finding another room in high season would have been tricky. thank goodness another guy, who i think was the manager appeared. he was fantastic and let us have the apartment at no extra. the apartment was lovely with a big terrace overlooking the pier and we had a bbq which was fantastic. it was perfect and if i were to be in lorne again i would book the apartment over the hotel. i checked on the net and you could get it for the same price as the hotel on a late booking site so i was pleased that the management had not charged us extra. a perfect example of a potentially bad scenario being converted to a really good one by excellent management.

Great View

Location is great
The Hotel could use a major cosmetic up lift , carpets need replacing, it was all a bit dingy, But the room was tidy and clean with a good shower . Just seamed very expensive for what we got

Great location but very old hotel

Location, offers pier views
The location is good but it's a very old hotel. Don't stay here if old hotels are not your thing. They had got the carpets cleaned just a day before our arrival so our room was stinking. Not very pleasant.
