horrible experience
after arriving late by train due to industrial action they told me that I could not check in because I didn't have photo ID with me. I did not have my license because I wasn't driving and I like many Australian citizens don't carry my passport on me when traveling in Australia. the very rude receptionist told me that I would need to get a statutory declaration signed at a police station -it was 8.00pm and I was alone and she thought that was a perfectly reasonable request of me. I had the agoda voucher with me but she wouldn't accept that after much discussion she finally went out the back to speak with the manager who told her to tell me that this time they would allow it but not next time like I was a naughty child. there will never be a next time. when did hotels start seeing the guest as an inconvenience and a nuisance instead of their purpose. I was very angry and upset.

Poor attitude/behaviour from staff/management
I was very disappointed with my stay at GSHM. Firstly when booking via AGODA they advertise "free internet" and then discreetly cross it out with a line drawn through- which is hard to see on a mobile devise. In actual fact you will be asked to pay something like $9.00 for 2 hours... The rooms were very cold and the a/c didn't seem to be reverse cycle- i.e.no heating was available. There was no hot water when I had a shower- only luke warm at best, or not even- which given the cold room you couldn't enjoy a shower in the morning. After booking/paying for 2 nights via agoda, which is fully paid upfront I tried to cancel/refund my second night after checking in. Firstly I was told by reception that it was up to Agoda to allow this/offer a refund for second night. I then ran Agoda and they informed that it was at the discretion of the hotel to allow the cancellation/refund. I explained to Agoda what they'd said to me, so the Agoda agent rang the hotel and the request was declined. I subsequently contacted reception again asking for the duty manger- and got the 'team leader' who then again said it was up to Agoda! I informed that Agoda were happy to refund the second night once approval was received from the hotel- which he then said ok to, and said he'd take the call from Agoda. I recontacted Agoda and asked them to call again to speak to said 'team leader'. he didn't take the call and then presented to be on a dinner break and wouldn't then take my follow up calls either. When I was finally able to speak with him (TL) again he denied what he'd said earlier and still tried to claim that it was up to Agoda, going around and around the circle. He then admitted he didn't have the authority to approve and that i'd have to speak to management during business hours the following day- which wasn't going to be possible as I needed to check out early - for an early departure...
