Freezing Cold Room, 2 requests for heating

Uncomfortable. Staff not unwilling and unhelpful. Hallway carpets old and dirty. My junior suite had a separate small room for the mini bar, sofa and TV. BUT NOT WINDOW! So it was not a pleasant experience to watch TV or even use the room, which I did not. I was a waste of money to upgrade.

Great Hotel, Central Location, Friendly Staff

Staff friendliness, Close to the souk, Decore

I enjoyed my stay at the Gulf Gate Hotel a lot. Being a single mature traveler I appreciated their kindness and attentiveness and didn't feel that they were waiting for a tip all the time. I ate in the dining room and had room service. The restaurant was rarely busy and meals are always from a buffet bar, making self service for portion sizes much more manageable. With the room service they got my order wrong a couple of times and when the food arrived - there was SO much on the plate that I felt overwhelmed. Hence room service was not cost effective for me, although it is convenient. I suggest that the kitchen staff need to have a good level of English in order to take instructions over the phone. The Hotel is near the souk so I was able to walk around there easily for an hour or two and wasn't hassled much. The decore in the hotel is something to behold.. very Arabian! At the moment its just a rather dark big room. The food is OK.. the chef makes a very good Crème Caramel. I also suggested that in these hygiene aware days - the restaurant should provide hand wipes on arrival or a hand cleanse dispenser. Both things I would have appreciated. On the downside - just a couple of things. The bed was very hard...no 'give' at all and the nightly music is a regular thumping drumming noise from a disco nearby. Fortunately I had my ear plugs... but for those who don't bring them, the Hotel, like airlines - could easily offer them as a courtesy to their guests. I will certainly stay at he Gulf Gate Hotel again when I next visit Bahrain.

An Annoying experience
3.7
Location and only that Was an experience to forget. Besides the 3-4 front office staff, all the rest were rude, proud and annoying. The hotel has a bar which is filled after midnight offering cheap company. This was a horrible experience and will never ever stay here again.

No pool bar - music far too loud in the bars - couldn't hear the singers most of the time. had to pay an entry fee for some of the bars.

This Hotel is Really Good!

Friendly, helpful staff, Facilities, Good rooms.
9.3
This was my second stay at the Gulf Gate. THE GOOD: Check-in was quick and hassle-free. I booked a room and paid 32 Dinars (so about $85.33 U.S. per night) through Agoda and got a nice, big, clean room. I think the rooms here would be ideal for couples, or for couples with one baby. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. On the ground floor there were two good bars, a pool and a nice restaurant. THE NOT SO GOOD: I got awakened my second morning there about 7:30 by some pounding and hammering which was coming from within the hotel. I didn't like that. But I called the front desk and they got it stopped. For me, this hotel is just fine. I'll be staying again.
