Friendly base for exploring the city
This is a lovely little Japanese-style guesthouse located one block from the Imperial Palace gardens and ideally located for buses around the city. The room we stayed in was lovely - traditional style, overlooking the garden. It was clean and had all we needed. Just bear in mind the toilets and shower facilities are shared, though we found them perfectly clean and never ran into anyone else. For the shower you just need to mention whether you prefer to use them in the morning or evening and confirm with the owner when they're available, but it was little hassle. We did not have food arranged during our stay, but note they do need 3 days notice if you wish to dine. The owner was very welcoming and spoke very good English, and he was very helpful in suggesting sights and places to visit and how to get around. Would love to stay there again!

Serenity in a cultural heritage
Serene, openair onsen, convenient
Nice traditional japanese food served, perfect open air onsen, very convenient: a bus stop and convenient stores are very near

Hakone Mikawaya
Great Service, Breathtaking view, Good food
I wished I had stayed longer. The place is so serene. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Perhaps hotel could renovate their private baths for customers to enjoy.

Slightly tired
Effort made on the food, bus stop right in front of hotel, traditions style
Had a nice time, and we thank everyone for helping my friend get as "vegetarian" a meal as possible, even though they don't do this anymore. Hotel is a little tired though. Rooms were somewhat stuffy. And I have seen nicer outdoor baths (although I knew that it would not be the best from the pictures already). We hope you are able to upgrade your facilities soon and once again draw in more clients going forward!

Service, comfort and tranquility.
The extremely helpful staff were always attentive and made the stay a wonderful experience. From the moment the kaiseki breakfast was served to the "I could never finish this yet I did!" dinner, their enthusiasm is infectious. The Mikawaya Ryokan is located just around the corner from the Yunessun Onsen theme park. To get there, go on the H-line bus and get off at the Horai-en stop being high is just at the foot of the hotel lobby. The trip from Hakone-Yumoto station takes about 20 minutes.

Good service and food
Good service, food and bath
This is my second time in Hakone and my first time staying there for a night. I find this ryokan quite a historical one. Food, bath and service is good. However, when I compare with the price, it is not quite worth that much.

Take the bus and get off at the front door
Authentic building, friendly staff, great dining.
I didn't realise that a bus goes from the tozan line stations to the hotel front door, and ended up climbing the slope for half an hour with the suitcases, which was a pain. Most of the staff didn't speak any English, but they were friendly and eager to help, so it wasn't a big problem. We stayed in a room with individual hot spring. Unlike others I have been to it didn't have a strong smell, plus the temperature was adjustable (there was a cold water tab), so it was quite comfortable. The only problem was that the shower area was outdoor as well, so you might want to finish washing your hair in 30 seconds and rush into the hot spring.
