Relaxing short stay

Food, staff and scenery
Meals included in the package is good. Rooms is a bit small for superior twin but with window overlooking the beautiful scenery. Hot water and aircond has limited time for usage.

Customer service really let this experience down

Ha Long Bay, rooms were ok, good activities
The boat was relatively nice. Rooms were clean and nice. Beds were soft but the pillows were like sleeping on a lump of concrete. The restaurant area of the boat was ok. There are a few serious issues that let the whole experience down. We had booked a Superior Double – the more expensive room. When we arrived, they handed out all the keys willy nilly. There was no checking to see what we had booked. The drinks menu was very limited and the when we went to order drinks, we were constantly told ‘We don’t have that item’. The boat was seriously understocked. There was not even fruit juice, despite that being a big section of the menu. The roof leaked into the restaurant all night. This wasn’t addressed by the staff. There was no bucket put down. Just a puddle on the floor. The whole time we were being served dinner, the TV was blaring in the restaurant and the staff were sitting down watching a Vietnamese soap opera. It was hard to get their attention if we needed anything. I couldn’t help think how nice some quiet dinner music and attentive staff would have been. We were promised karaoke after dinner. They couldn’t get the karaoke working. My friend who is a sound guy had to step in and sort out the problem. When we went to bed, we discovered the roof was leaking onto our bed. However, our experience on Ha Long Dolphin Junks was marred by the rudest waitress we have ever encountered. She was short with customers, wouldn’t smile, impossible to get her attention. It was awful and swas the only waitress on the boat! We came up for breakfast in the morning, we had slept later than everyone and it was only her and us in the restaurant. She was sitting at a table, texting on her phone. I greeted her with a friendly good morning and she ignored me and continued texting. I asked her for a coffee and she didn’t even look up. I asked again and after a minute of texting she got up. I was astounded by her rudeness. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this cruise

Fun cruise

Lots of seafood, good tour guide
Our tour guide on Halong Dolphin took great care of us despite lacking fluency in English. We had a lot of fun exploring Halong Bay, especially seeing the Amazing Cave and kayaking near the floating village. The size of the room was sufficient for a night's stay and my only slight complaint will be that the heater wasn't working in our room. Water has to be purchased so bring your own if you like. We had a lovely time overall.

Enjoyable cruise in comfort

Bedroom and food
we decided to book through agoda rather than a travel agency in hanoi, and are glad we did as we had paid slightly less than the other people on the boat. the transfer was okay, although we saw the other buses and they looked slightly more comfortable. our guide was okay, but seemed more interested in flirting with the single girls on our trip rather than telling us about what we were doing, the staff in general were very smiley and helpful though, especially when it came to getting on or off the boat. on the second day our guide didn't wake up until 10am, which meant we didn't really know what we were doing which was annoying. food was quite nice although the seafood was much nicer than the meat, so if you don't eat seafood make sure you let them know before! drinks weren't too bad either; £1.40 for a beer and £18 for a bottle of wine. definitely bring a couple of bottles of water though!!! the activities on board (fishing and cookery course) weren't really up to much. we learnt how to roll ready made spring roll filling, which wasn't very taxing, and when we said we wanted to fish, we were just given rods and told to dangle them over the edge........nobody caught anything!! the rooms were very comfortable, although there wasn't always hot water as you rely on a generator. all in all we were happy with our time and our boat seemed one of the nicer ones in this price range. one big thing about halong bay though......yes it is a beautiful place, but tourists are confined to a tiny area of it, which means every boat does the same trip at the same time. this means you are constantly surrounded by boats and all of your photos will have boats blocking the beautiful scenery.

It's ok but explore others as well

the deck & private bathroom
Booked a 2 day 1 night. While it is generally clean, I did caught a cockroach in the bathroom. The air con is old and too cold no matter how I changed the temperature. They have friendly staff on board - talks too much sometimes. The food can definitely be improved. Sometimes they were served cold. I actually informed them way in advance about my shellfish allergy. They forgot that and I had to make do with potatoes and veggies. They were kind enough to provide alternatives. If you're young and hip and looking to make friends on the boat, this boat is not for you. It's more family oriented & also for couples. This ain't no party boat. Karaoke didn't work. But they had an AC Ryan media box hooked up. So. while it is still ok. I suggest, if you have time, explore other boats.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: With great weather. you get stunning shots of Halong Bay so come with a good camera!
