Heritage Auckland
Location, large room, value for money
Location of hotel is really great - walking distance to Queen Street & waterfront. A lot of restaurants nearby & close to supermarket

Old and a bit superficial
We stayed at the Heritage Hotel for the last 2 nights of our holiday before flying home - we chose it because of the central location, and because it is ranked quite high in Auckland - a "safe choice" for the end of the holiday. We think it disappointed us - on two aspects: staff performance and the room itself. Upon arrival, there was no sign of concierge in sight, so my husband had to come in the lobby to push out the trolley for luggage by himself. While he was loading a heavy piece of luggage from the taxi onto the trolley, a concierge staff came out and asked for our booking reference. Of course no one would know their booking reference - we would present it in printout at the Reception! During our stay, we seeked advices from the Reception/Concierge a few times regarding restaurants/places around the centre - information provided was a bit hit and miss, but that's not a big deal. On the 28th Dec, we asked for some information and a staff replied that he would need to charge us for providing service on that day, because that was a public holiday - this is the first time ever we heard something like that at a hotel. The hotel has quite nice common areas (lobby, restaurant, tennis court), but the lifts and the room are quite a letdown (the truth is they are really old). The middle lift in the main lobby really needs to be refurbished, and the lift leading to swimming pool was really slow. The room is large and that's what we wanted, but it really needs a "facelift": the wooden floor is creaking, shower has no shower base so water runs everywhere when we take the shower (no way to be eco-conscious and use fewer towels because we needed the towels to prevent water running from the shower to the toilet), TVs are very old, remote controls not working, wardrobes and curtains are all very old. Also, the wall is thin and not sound proof so sensitive sleepers should be aware.

Roof top pool, large rooms, Excellent location
Nice stay, pools was well used and the outdoor area. The breakfast was diapoointing with little to choiose and coffee machine broken and food always running out. Room service was excellent, prompt and good servings. Beds were very comfortable and lovely outside balcony with table and chairs. Christmas decorations nice touch
