Great location, lovely room, avoid the buffet

Location, Rooms and Location
7.3
The rooms are lovely and the views splendid. Location is great just to wander the local countryside and tea plantations. For dining the buffet is a disappointment and not five star. Their choice of 'dinner' music is also somewhat strange. For breakfast the service is slow and somewhat disorganised, but not unfriendly. None of these are had to fix, and if fixed would make the property a five star.

A little bit out of the way if you're time limited, but amazing experience with the tea plucking and the natural setting. This place is truly a gem.

Rip off

industrial design, little garden, welcome tea
4
Very disappointing. I booked one double room and did not notice that the occupancy was 1 person. Does not make sense in a double room but fair enough. The charge for the extra person was ridiculous. The total came to , total rip off. The room was nice but small and basic and noisy. View of the car park meant reversing sounds and ranging cars till late and then from 5am again. The ceiling of the room was timber and therefore noisy too. The location is shocking. As it is higher than Nuwara Eliya the fog never lifted. The journey was endless and going anywhere else to dine, shop or visit is not an option. You are trapped. The restaurant is totally overpriced and the food mediocre. That was a real shame. The internet connection is less than spotty. When I asked for IT back up at reception the employee managed to erase all of my normally frequented networks from my phone. No more passwords or automatic log ons where I go. Unfortunately some of these passwords are irretrievable. A personal catastrophe. The manager never surfaced and the reception staff excused himself with a shoulder shrug. No apology? You are only in their trap for the rip off. NEVER AGAIN. BE WARMER.

Great location, staff and concept; rooms lacking

Location, staff, only tea concept hotel
6.7
As stated in title, the location, concept of hotel, and staff were all lovely. The rooms need some work however - poor heating, sound control and bed quality. Think it's a bit overpriced for what it is...

Beautiful location

Scenery, traditional environment, service
8.7
It was beautifully located and very comfortable and unique in terms of the traditional environment created by the friendly staff but we were unlucky with the room since we had a back view room with two single beds instead of double bed which was quite disturbing.

Excellent hotel in a lush hilltop setting

The stay was excellent. The hilltop location surrounded by tea plants makes for a relaxing setting. Tea Plucking is an enjoyable activity which really gives you a sense for the work that is done to bring tea to the western world and how local work is done. The "train ride dinner" is a bit cheesy, but also an excellent dinner with course after course of excellent food, so I would recommend that as well - but don't each too much of any one thing, because more is coming along behind it!

Stunning setting, but somewhat disappointing

location, lobby area, quirkiness
6.7
It's a very quirky hotel set in a beautiful location. We were disappointed by a few things which meant I probably wouldn't return given the number of beautiful hotels in the vicinity. The standard of food was average-poor; the beds were really uncomfortable; and the due to squeaky floorboards and thin walls it was very difficult to get to sleep due to guests walking around upstairs and talking in the room next door. But for those 3 things, which I'm sure can be rectified, this hotel has lots of potential.
