absolutely great
A 5 min motorcycle drive or a 20 min walk out of the noisy and busy little town. That's great as you can enjoy peaceful beaches in the north! The accommodation was perfect: friendly staff, nice bungalows in an even nicer garden and wifi on demand! Perfect.

Good in some ways, not so great in others
Very close to a lovely quiet beach, but quite far from town. We walk quickly and it still took 50mins to the town itself. You can get cheap motorbike taxis but we had been lead to believe it was a much shorter distance. The room was not very clean and there were many ants in the bathroom which the staff had to spray to keep under control. Food at the restaurant was not bad but below the standard we'd had around Myanmar. Overall the bungalows and surroundings are nice and the staff were helpful and welcoming. If you're coming for a deserted beach and nothing else this is probably the place for you, and you could do a lot worse overall, however there are nicer places in Chaung Tha

Top of the Hill
Staff, location, food
We were a group of 5, who visited HGH in March 2016. We chose the place after reading other visitors comments posted on various travellers blogs, and have not been disappointed. It is an experience to wake up amongst luscious banana and papaya trees versus the concrete surroundings of the alleged "luxury" tourist establishments located along the beach in the village. The never ending stream of diverse international visitors ( backpackers, families, single travelers) speaks for itself. There are no language barriers at HGH. Our sincere thanks to all staff who made our stay enjoyable. The beef burgers at your restaurant are legendary. I wish I could express this in Burmese alphabet, Many Thanks.

It was a surprise to find out that TripAdvisor voted this hotel as the best in Chaung Tha. My husband and I were satisfied with the cottage we had. Another surprise was the packed breakfast that the staff prepared for us when we left very early in the morning. Great hotel!

The best place to stay
Very good value for Myanmar (where the hotel prices are higher than in other classic asian traveller countries). The staff is very friendly and helpful - my wife became sick during our stay - the staff (the owner, manager and others) took care of her and brought us in the middle of the night to a doctor, so that we could enjoy the rest of our stay there. The cook does understand his job very well, but is also openminded for all sort of conversation. We would like to stay longer...

Food was fresh and good value, good portion size, pleasant waiters, pleasant surroundings
Disappointing in that we were told we would have only one chalet instead of the two we'd booked, then they found another chalet but we were told that our Agoda rate did not entitle us to AC. There was no hot water at all - was supposed to be solar powered. There was electricity only between 6pm and 8am. Hotel appearance is tired and down-at-heel compared to two years ago, even though there has been some building work and improvements have been made. Probably wouldn't return.

Too Expensive
Bungalow, Close to the quiet Beach, Motorbike Rental Service
We didnt have hot water during out whole stay and the room didnt get cleaned once. We think this is quite a poor performance for the price we paid. The location is great if you like quietness and lonely beaches... The bungalows are good and the food is okay.

Not a bad place to stay
20 minute walk to town, limited menue but fine for a few days, electric 6pm to 6am, good mosquito net, only cold water showers, clean secure rooms, wi fi hit and miss but you can use the sister hotel in town. The nearest beach at the bottom of the road is like a,motor cycle race track. The second paat the small rock Stupa ia paradise walk along and eat at one stone we spent our days there. The beaches continue to 20 + km some of the best in the world totally unspoilt We would stay at Hill Garden again if we ever return as in the rest of Myamar Hotels are expensive.
