Deteriorating Service
The internet was very very slow. Complimentary breakfast was unpalatable. Mostly Chinese food varieties and virtually no continental selections. Bathroom smelled moldy. Old beds and furnitures. Very little basic amenities in the bathroom. Very unhelpful staff. Will not stay again.

the location.
Location was nice and quiet, but overall I was disappointed with my time here. The rooms smelled like water damage and mold, and the staff were unaccommodating and lazy.

Holiday Inn Express
Only good thing was the location.
This hotel was in a quiet location, but that wasn't enough to make up for the overall poor experience at this Holiday Inn Express. The rooms smell of water damage and mold, and a large majority of the staff seemed incapable of performing basic "hotel" tasks. You could maybe attribute that to language, but I've spent enough time in China to know that the problem ran much deeper in this case.

Holiday Inn Express
The good thing about this hotel is that it's in a quiet place.
The entire hotel smells like moisture/water. There was water damage or mold in both rooms I stayed in. Most frustrating of all, the staff is consistently incompetent and lazy. There were maybe 1 or 2 members of the staff who could function.

Unfriendly, inconvenient, not helpful.
It is definately not a friendly hotel. I booked superior twin with bathtub and bath rope which was shown online. When get the room, it's a combined-large-bed(two single beds) with a tiny quilt which is not able to cover 2 gentlemen. Though I totally understand it is after midnight and I disturbed his cigarette break, it was a bit hard for me to accept this kind of attitude and tone. Room I booked was superior, but NO SHOWER GEL WAS PROVIDED and the shower nozzle holder was NOT FUNCTIONAL. I had to shower with only 1 hand since I need to hold it all the time. The breakfast should be served till 10:30 am and we were at the restaurant around 9:50 am. The staffs shouted to us:" we are closing and be faster". I asked them to allow us 3-5 min to collect our food, however, nothing can stop them cleaning the table and finishing their duty. My friend and I had to find something to eat outside due to we only get 2 bun and 2 eggs, but there was nothing around the hotel. I will never chose to stay at this hotel again.

Poor surrounding
clean room
About 15 min walk to nearest metro station, but nothing along the road, not very convenience. Room is clean and bed is comfortable though.

typically Holiday Inn
Nice quiet location, close to subway, wifi was good
Typically Holiday Inn Express except the breakfast was a not nearly as good as the Santiago or Dongzhimen hotels. Everything worked, was clean, comfortable, walking distance to subway and if you like walking You can walk to the main shopping street and People's Square.

The quietest location for sleeping in shanghai
In a noisy city this hotel is in a very quiet location. Perfect for sleeping. Close to a metro station. 5 minutes fast walk, and a short taxi ride from the Jing an Si, Zhongshan park and not much further to French concession area. I would stay again
