After a few days solo, I contacted a local family I have known for two years and invited them to go with me for a day trip to Playa Blanca. The family included a mother and two children, ages 4 and seven. As they lived far from the tourist dock, I asked the women working at the hotel if they could stay in my room (which included a large bed and two sofas large enough to sleep on), for whatever extra fee required for the number of people. The woman answered that she would have to call to find out, and then about 15 minutes later, she responded that there would be no problem. When the family arrived she was off duty, replaced by a man. I explained to him that I had previously gotten approval for the other guests, and he took the required information, names and ID numbers. We then left to buy tickets for the trip the following morning and went for dinner, returning at about 10 pm. The same man then told me that hotel policy did not allow children to stay as guests. I reminded him that I had prior approval and asked to see something in writing to confirm what he said. I searched the internet for various website comments about the hotel and found no such policy. I did find the comment from one guest (not an exact quote, "mis hijos disfrutaban la piscina" (my children enjoyed the pool). The hotels web site says nothing about a no kids allowed policy As it was rather late to ask this people to go home, we had to quickly find another hotel in the area (Casa Relax) where we were treated with respect. I am not sure why this happened, my knowledge of Spanish is adequate. These two children are exceptionally well behaved. This happened on my sixth trip to Colombia, I have stayed in this country in total for more than sixth months and I have never experienced any thing like this before
Hotel Feature Tip: If you want to stay here, enquire about policy regarding children

Great location and lovely people!

Location was perfect. Staff wonderful.
8.3
Nice, clean hotel with friendly staff. Quiet area but close to everything. They'll even do your laundry for you (wash, dry and fold) . The pool is very small, more for cooling off than swimming but anything to deal with the Cartagena heat is great. The kitchen is modern and clean. There are nice seating areas near the pool to hang out.
Hotel Feature Tip: They do your laundry on-site!

Nice place and lovely people

Place and people
7.7
The place is nice; the guys who work there and the owner are very nice and helpful. The kitchen helps a lot with want to cook. It is very close to everywhere (old town, bars and touristic places, supermarket). It is important to highlight that the Calle Media Luna is a place of, not violent, but if you walk back home there is always the street behind (Calle 29) which is a residential area. I recommend the bedrooms upstairs - both for the silence and smell.

A very large room for the small hostel price

Huge space and a pool
6.7
The place looks clean and cozy. There's a small pool but I had no time to dip in it. I changed the room because there were a few cockroaches running around although the first room upstairs is very large with 4 beds and a bathroom is also large with a bathtub. There is no chair or desk to work or just to watch TV. There are many channels in English. The second room downstairs is smaller but it's much better as there are sofas and new air con. And no more cockroaches! For this size, it's worth the money especially if you come in a group. The catch is that there's no breakfast and hot water. Location wise, in spite of being located on the other side of the central area, everything is in a walkable distance. I can walk to the Centro and it's very safe to walk back at night. Just ignore some people who try to sell you something (not drug). There are police at every street corner.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: The hotel is located very near the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas. You can easily walk there and enjoy the magnificent view of Cartagena city. There are also the shopping mall near the Castillo San Felipe. The best time to visit is in the morning so you have the sun shining from your back when looking over the city.
