great hostel near the beach

staff, location, breakfast
This place is great, its a small hostel, with 4 rooms I think. Its a 2 minute walk to a great beach and many good restaurants. Owner is very helpful, he was very patient and answered all our questions, he takes good care of his hostel. The breakfast is included in the price and its a very good, healthy breakfast.

Well Located Place with a Good Value for Money

Location, Value, Individual Rooms
For the price of a hostel, you can get your own room at Hostaria. Is conveniently located and the value for money is excellent. I would recommend this to anyone on a budget who wants a bit of privacy and wants to stay close to the main beaches on Lanta .

Fantastic and Friendly Stay

Claudio, Value For Money, Breakfast
Had a great stay at the Hostaria. Claudio is a fantastic host and is willing to go the extra mile(s) for his guests (thanks for the lift to the pier Claudio!). The accomodation is simple but very clean and offers superb value for money, the breakfast also starts your day in the right way. A very friendly place which is highly recommended if you are staying in Lanta.

Great two night stay at this modest hostel! The host was the star! Amazing friendly and full of useful information about the island where the cheap eats are etc. Would recommend to anyone traveling to Koh Lanta!!!!!

little gem of a guest house *****

The owner claudio, the tree house, claudio's pasta :)
I stayed for only two nights but wished I'd stayed longer and not pre-booked another place! Claudio makes you feel right at home; it felt like a house share rather than an impersonal guest house. He was most helpful in every way possible. In the end I didn't want to leave but had already booked somewhere else..however I will be back :) Thanks claudio!

Great value, great location, great internet

location, internet, Claudio the host
Set your expectations appropriately; Hostaria is not a resort. There is no pool. With that said, I had an incredible stay at Hostaria! Claudio is a great host. He provided excellent recommendations for vendors in the local area and was very attentive to my needs. The bathrooms and bedroom were clean and useful. (No marble nor granite, duh.) There is no hot water for the showers, but seriously who needs hot showers in this climate. I will certainly stay again when I come back to Koh Lanta!

Good bang for your buck

Attentiveness, safe and secure, close enough to a great beach
Hostaria 239 (Hahz-tuh-RRREE-uh) is a small guesthouse located at Pra Ae Beach (also called Long Beach) on the beach side of the main road, almost half way down the island. A 5-minute walk from the guesthouse puts you on the beach. Beach is long and wide, and doesn’t feel crowded even during high season. Sand is clean. The water is reasonably clear and never cold (almost too warm at times). The bottom is sandy and evenly graduated out to sea. (One can walk out 75+ yds. and still be only chest deep. In short, great beach for children, swimming, and relaxation. (I purchased a beverage at a nearby resort, and was also able to enjoy their beach-side pool and fresh-water showers). Nightly sunsets can be stunning. Next door to Hostaria is May’s Kitchen; a friendly, and popular (if not a bit pricy, like most places on the island) eatery (Western BBQ and Thai). Other businesses (massage, medical clinic, 7-11, and others are very nearby or at a short walk) Lodging: Very much Thai style, it is rustic, but in essentially good repair, clean, and secure, if not somewhat cluttered. (Without being intrusive, house resident “Claudio” keeps things safe and running smoothly. He has the information guests need, and facilitates the most competitive prices. (Claudio is also a trained Italian chef who is known to bake-his-own-bread and prepare the occasional gourmet meal for guests). Hostaria is not the Hilton. It is the basic bed, clean sheet, pillows, and towel sort of place. (You probably won’t need a top sheet or cover, but they are available at your request). There is a fan in your room, and fans in the sitting areas. Modern electrical outlets are abundant, grounded, and found everywhere. Wifi is good. Two bathrooms (western style toilets) with showers, but alas, only three guest rooms, so never a problem. The old adage, “you get what you pay for” holds true, except in this instance, I believe one gets a whole lot more.
