Nice Private room

friendly staff, large and organized
they have many different rooms in different locations, so it's best if you don't have a suitcase because your room might be down the street from the main hostel. Backpack is the best for staying here because most of the room locations don't have elevator. The private room I stayed at was on the top floor (4th floor) 10 min walk up hill from the main hostel location

Wonderful stay, excellent staff

Excellent staff, value for money, good location
First and foremost, I have to compliment the excellent and superbly friendly staff at this hostel. We arrived early in Sofia (at 8ish) and were allowed an early check-in at 9ish am. This was really a plus for us given the fact that we really needed a good rest after taking the overnight bus from Istanbul. One of the staff members gave us useful info (where to dine, what to see, etc) before walking us to our room, which is located in another apartment building. One thing to note though, all private rooms are located in another apartment building, which is about 5 minutes walk from the hostel. So you might feel slightly "isolated" from fellow travellers. But no worries, you are always welcomed to hang out at the common area of the main hostel - we did that and had some great time. The room we had is actually one of the rooms in a four-room apartment. The apartment comes with a living area, kitchen with some basic cooking facilities and two WCs. Our four-bed room was spacious and clean, although it did have a slight moldy smell (not disturbing at all). The apartment is a mere 10 minutes walk from Vitosha Blvd and the Court House, where is the starting point of Free Sofia Walking Tour (we found out about the tour from the hostel too). For access from the train station and bus station (next to each other), I'd suggest taking the tram as it's about 30 minutes walk to the hostel; the tram costs 2 leva (1 leva for the passenger + 1 leva for the backpack). However, if you travel in a group (2-3 ppl), I'd suggest taking a cab as it only costs around 6 leva (ours costed us 5+ leva), which is equal to what you pay for tram for a group of 3. The hostel staff helped us call the cab for our trip from the hostel to the bus station. Apparently, cabs in Sofia tend to overcharge too. So it's best to get the hostel's help to call you a cab. All in all, it was a wonderful and value-for-money stay (48 leva (around 24 EUR) for a triple room). Highly recommended!
