extremely bad experience
fantastic location
i am sorry to say, that this must have been one of my worst experiences in a hotel ever. i never thought this kind of business would exist in japan. the hotel is beyond being dirty, cold as a fridge, and good for a horror movie. it is a pity, that a hotel with such a great location, just in front of the lake, has such a poor service as a hotel. i was not expecting any luxury, just a clean bed, a clean toilette with clean towels, and a warm room (the outside temperature was 4 degrees, inside it was 2 degrees celsius...). none of my expectancies were met, so feeling sorry for the staff, that was correct, i would strongly recommend not to go to this hotel, if you don't want to waste your holiday in nikko.

Great location but dirty, unsafe, and poor service
Right on Lake Shuzenji side
We are stuck to this unwise booking the last minute and ended up regreting later. This one must be rated as motel vs. hotel. The facility is so old and unsafe with many things broken left unfixed. Old towels, dirty onsen. There is not bathroom/toilet in your room. This is like dormitory style. The bed is so old and very uncomfortable. There is central heater, very cold. If you plan to enjoy the erea, don't let this cheap price fool you. I regret paying $105 toal for one room. It is not worth the money. The only best thing is the location. This motel is right on the Lake Shuzenji side. However, there are many other nice hotels in the area.

Old hotel but cheap
Right next to the lake and 10 min walk to the waterfall
If you are looking to save money and just need a place to stay for the night, this hotel may suite your needs. The hotel is quite a bit run down but it is situated right by the beautiful lake. There is really nothing to do in the evening around the area.... really, nothing. No convenience stores and only a couple restaurants open in the evening. The onsen or bath is nothing special and the bathrooms are shared. Like I said, if you are looking for comfort look elsewhere.

Dirty hotel at a nice place
The hotel is near the beautiful lake of Chuzenjiko
The hotel in general is very old and in a rather bad overall status. Not only the color is coming down the wall, also many other things are out of service and dirty. In the female toilet on the floor 1 out of three toiltes was working, but the floor and the walls were very dirty. Also in the bedroom you should not touch more than necessary. Below the bed, the garbage of a former guest was still there. Opening the window is not recommended, on one hand, since monkeys can come in, on the other hand the dirt from the monkeys is stinking just in front of the window. The indian dinner buffet was actually suprisingly very good, but there was no breakfast offered. The Onsen was quiet all right much cleaner than the other rooms.

Deserted hotel with very good Indian food
The hotel has its own onsens (male/female)
The hotel overlooks the beautiful lake Chuzenji-ko. During our stay, only some of the floors of the hotel were operating. The hotel and the area by Chuzenji-ko was a bit deserted especially at night during our stay (August). This hotel is a low-budget opportunity for hikers to stay there for a couple of nights between hikes.

Not much value
Good food and great location
Cracks in the roof led to water leaking into the fourth floor. No ventilation so the whole building reaks of sulfur and mold. Some will claim its just the natural springs but look up and you'll see the mold like sheets. Outdoor pool does not work. Probably because it's leaking into the lower floors. sauna is a store room not a sauna. They actualy lock the doors at 2100. In short, this is more like a second rate hostel than a motel. Most of the town is shut down but it is still a great place to visit.

dont do it
Nice Indian buffet, has an onsen, beautiful view on to the lake
Did not enjoy our stay here. Messy, un-clean, smelly place. Poor service, not friendly. Also there is gender inequality, I found I was commonly ignored in discussions as the owner would only talk to my boyfriend and my opinion meant nothing. Dark, dingy, dirty. Possibly ok when full of people. Delicious Indian food and view onto the lake. Onsen within the hotel was nice, still bit diry but relaxing. Double room was a decent size. Also a 1,100yen bus ride from the main NIkko station taking nearly 30mins.
