Good value for business travelers
I used to live in Jakarta, so am familiar with the Borobudur going all the way back to when it was an Intercontinental in the 1990s. It still has international level facilities and so is a great value. It is located more in the governmental district now, since the business community has mostly moved 5-6 kilometers south in the past 20 years (to the Sudirman Central Business District). So would heartily recommend it on a value basis, depending upon where in town your meetings are (because traffic can be a bear in Jakarta). Most of the guests now are Indonesian business people and those having business with the government. If you need to show how important you are, etc., the proper Potlatch choice today is perhaps the Ritz Carlton at Pacific Place across the Street from the Stock Exchange at 2-3 times the price. But if your budget is not so generous, the Borobudur is still a perfectly respectable and safe place.

B-hotel, govt quarter
I used to live in Jakarta and still am here often. The Borobudur is one of those former international hotels in Jakarta that became domestic in dropping out of the Intercontinental system already 10 years ago. The facilities are still international standard, so that its central location in the govt district is the chief downside. Much business has moved on towards the SCBD to the south, so if you are in Jakarta on business traffic may become an issue. But if your dealings are with govt agencies, or the family is along and tourism a concern, the B would be a real value as place to stay. There is enough green space with the sports facilities for active kids to play outside.

What happened to the gym?
The old gym/spa was great at Borobudur. The tenniscourts in full use and generally nice and full of activity. The new glitzy gym, although well kitted out is sterile and lacks the friendly atmosphere of the old place. Also tennis seems to have disappeared and it is as silent as a graveyard out there where much activity was evident in the past. It is very sad to see.
