Excellent grand old hotel
This is a grand old hotel built in 1880, and run by Saigon Tourist state agency. We stayed in a junior suite which was huge, well furnished in a classic style, and well appointed. Each room has individual wifi which is a big plus compared to those hotels that advertise wifi, but the router is way down the corridor, and you can't reach it! The hotel has spa, massage and gym facilities, but no swimming pool. Buffet breakfast is excellent, and staff are helpful and courteous. Hotel restaurants are fine dining and a bit pricey, and not well patronised. Not ideal for tourists, but there are hundreds of restaurants to choose from in Saigon. The hotel is situated nest to the Opera House in the uptown part of District 1. Close to a couple of large upmarket shopping centres. Its about a 20 minute walk to the Ben Thanh market and downtown backpackers area which used to have some great cheap cafes, but it now looks quite seedy and uninviting compared to our previous visits. I suggest you choose a room with a balcony, facing the Opera House, and on the right hand side of the hotel to avoid traffic noise.

Grand old dame at an excellent location
I liked the hotel for the size of its rooms and the location. The rooms are huge and the bed comfy. The location is excellent as it is near sights and cafes and restaurants. The breakfast spead was good too and the staff friendly. Two things I was not happy about. First, if you ask for compolimentary bottled water beyond what they give you daily, they will tell you its company policy not to give extra and that we should consume at the minibar. This is a first for me. Second, the air-conditioning is weak so on a hot day you have to keep it running so that you don't melt when you return.

Booked a junior suite was put in a double delux with twin single beds, room was old and tired and had an awful smell from the drains. The hotel did change our room to another double delux that had been returbished. Blamed Agoda for wrong description of room. Would not stay here again would stay in the grand far better rooms better facilities and better staff.
