Value for money, well-located and friendly staff but...
Clean rooms, value for money, strategically located, friendly staffs and excellent reading materials from the small library in the lobby. The only temporary problem is that there is a construction site located nearby during my stay hence it can be annoying for light sleepers. Expect power cut-offs for several hours a day. Otherwise it's close to perfection.

should be your choice
location,service,garden
I had a pleasant stay at hotel florid nepal. Very clean and tidy rooms, and also all good facilities such as hot water, AC, good wifi, good breakfast included. There is a really nice and quite garden resturant which provided delious nepali and other food. Staff was friendly. You can ask about all tour trips around kathmandu, patan and bhaktapur. They could organize car rent, it's a really good chance to explore kathmandu vally and around. I highly recommend this hotel. It's should be your choice also.

In Thamel
location and price
If you want to be in Thamel, and don't care where, choose Florid. The security doors are pulled and locked after hours, and no one is paying attention or watching the phone, so if you have a late flight, you might have to bang on the door for 20 minutes to get in. Actually a serious fire hazard.

Not the Cleanest Place and the ripped us off
the book selection in the front, the location, it's spacious rooms
Our stay was alright. We did not book through agoda before, multiple times and were ripped off and paid ~2,000 NPR (20 USD). The rooms were not so clean, but the book selection and location were great! I would stay there again for ~1200 NPR max.

Hotel Florid is Fantastic!
Misha/front desk, restaurant, calm
I was escorting my handicapped 84-year old mother on a two-month long overseas odyssey, cut 1.5 weeks short by her suffering from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in Lhasa, Tibet. I predicted she'd improve at lower altitudes, and Kathmandu, Nepal, certainly qualified. Not only did she improve, but she even felt so much better that she wanted to continue our journey, reverting back to our previous schedule, which included several nights at this fine overnightery. At the front desk, Misha was especially helpful and knew me quite well even though we'd not met--we had had numerous internet conversations regarding our itinerary and the various iterations as we got closer to arrival. We were given a choice of a 3rd or 2nd floor twin-bedded room (Western-style toilet, essential for mum, was most conveniently located right across the hall) but with her condition, struggling up an extra flight of stairs made the 3rd floor a little too difficult. In fact, she wouldn't have to cope with those stairs until we departed early next morning--the in-house restaurant delivered her meal to her. After eating a delicious meal from their restaurant in the restful patio area in back (I had unwittingly sat beneath a large umbrella which turned out to be great because of a light rain began falling) the mist had stopped and I walked the streets of Thamel. Fortunately, I was intrigued at one shop, and, mindful that I needed to get my wife something from my abridged journey abroad, was able to make a deal on a pair of emerald post earrings. Our room was well above the loud din of the Thamel, The Hotel Florid is/was an extremely welcome respite, although we absolutely needed the taxi driver to get us there--we'd never find it on our own the first time!
