Nice place with I bit of history
An old english style place with beautiful gardens. Could probably do with bit of TLC though quite comfortable as it is. Great bar

It's Okay...
The Glendower is excellently located. A two minute walk from the park, eight minutes from the City Centre. It's clean - but not quite. A musty smell seems to permeate the common areas. The double room had two single beds pushed up together. Not quite what we expected. The service took some time. An hour to get a cup of tea? Unexceptionable, really. So overall, a 6.8 might be a bit on the high side - but not by much.

Suits a taste
The staff were great. The rooms were tasteful. Excellent value.
This takes a type of traveller. If you're the kind of person who enjoys unpolished history, this is a great place. Is it modern or "refurbished" or swanky? No. The hotel is very much a time capsule of a time long since past. Things squeak, things are loose, but not uncomfortably so. The staff was remarkably accommodating. They let me choose the room i preferred. They have picnic breakfasts ready for folks doing the 5:30 am hike to World'd End. Plus they made sit-down breakfast earlier as i was catching an early bus out. The biggest issue is the location. It's far enough out of town that it's peaceful, but not so far that it's inconvenient. The problem is the construction happening next door. There is a MASSIVE shopping complex currently being built (started mid-2015) and the project is expected to take 2 years. They start at 8 am and finish at 8 pm. It can be very loud and disruptive if you're planning a relaxing morning. Despite this, i would stay again if in town. Oh, and the WiFis pretty fast too.

Cold, dark and noisy
We arrived on a rainy and cold Day from the warm Kandy.. The hotel was dark (they may call it the colonial style, but I don't buy it), the room was cold, with no heating and we stayed in because of the rain (and had to put on our travelling clothes, meant for Norway). There is a building site next door (shopping mall, finishing in 2017 from what we were told). They worked late, and since the window did not close properly, there was noise added to the cold. Staff was nice, food ok. But I would not stay there again, mainly because of the lack of heating. We had dinner at the Indian restaurant nearby. Good food, reasonably priced.

The poorest hotel I have stayed in Sri Lanka
Its Location; staff keen to be of help; garden
Although it is in the middle of the town it is next to a very noisey building site. The rooms are sparsely furnished, lacking power points,no safe or tea/coffee making facilities. The rooms are badly presented with poor paintwork/decoration. The doors don't fit properly and the bathroom is small, with an ill fitting door and supplied only with soap and no glass. If you wish to have a drink of water or a cup of coffee/tea. You would be unable. Breakfast was poor with badly cooked eggs and bacon. I did not have dinner so I can't comment. I tried to use their stand alone computer, but it was extremely difficult to get onto the net and this was further hampered by the fact that a number of keys had lost their letters, making booking onward places and E Mails very difficult. In conclusion I have stayed in cheaper four stars and had better facilities and accommodation in 2 stars. This is a very poor 3 star, only salvaged by its location (minus the building site) its staff who are keen and the garden that wins awards. It needs to do a lot to get up to the standard required of a proper 3 star.
