Hotel description
Hotel Hotel is a place of collaborative craftsmanship conceived of and made by artists, makers,...see more Hotel Hotel is a place of collaborative craftsmanship conceived of and made by artists, makers, designers, and fantasists. It is the brainchild of the Molonglo Group. The 68 rooms are dressed with salvaged and restored 20th century Australian furniture, original artworks stockpiled over 10 years, objects collected in nomadic times, and artisan-made furnishings. The beds are made from reclaimed oak, and the walls are a mix of concrete, cork, earthen clay, and natural fiber wallpapers. Finishing touches include Aesop amenities and heated bathroom floors.

Half of the rooms look out of their opening hardwood windows onto the lake or bush, and half onto the internal atrium populated with Tasmanian ferns. The public spaces include a library stocked with small press and vintage books, two large fireplaces for people to colonize, and the Monster kitchen and bar preoccupied with local, seasonal food.

Hotel Hotel sits in the environmentally thoughtful, pineapple shaped Nishi building within Canberra’s arts and culture precinct, NewActon.

The wonderful helpful staff, the way the hotel is appointed is so cool, the food at Monsters is brilliant and takes room service to a whole new level - and they were wonderful with our 18 month old!
Just perfect. A wonderful way to celebrate a special birthday. Very central local, easy walk to some cool restaurants, bars and the cinema right on your doorstep. Very cool!

Hotel Hotel

Architecture, Surronding facilities, Monster
Apart from extremely slow service in the bar area due to lack of staff the hotel was very good. For a five star hotel one should not be chasing the staff at the bar to find out when ones drink was going to arrive. Overall I would say the staff are not yet offering 5 star service. The architecture is superb.

my review

decor, cleanliness/hygiene, new
Ok, rooms not sound proof enough, I could hear utilities being used elsewhere in the hotel clearly from within my room. Bed too soft, pillows absolutely terrible and offer no support, there should be a variety available within the room, iron is next to useless

Mood lighting is awful

Location, bed, room service
The interior of the room looked nice but there were a number of design problems. All the blinds, lights etc were controlled by switches on a panel which was black with silver writing and was down low. This panel also had "make up my room & do not disturb on it. It was almost impossible to read. The lights for the bathroom mirror was directly above my head so my eyes were totally in shadow making it impossible to see to do eye makeup...not good when one is there for business. The bathroom floor did not have a floor trap & the shower screen only goes 1/2 way across on a level floor so the bathroom floor became very wet with nowhere to drain. There was no view to speak of

Quirky for its own sake

Location, Staff good restaurant in easy walking
Rather a disappointing stay. We found it quirky for its own sake. Room size is OK, although very dark. Entire place is constructed from Chip Board and by the end of winter smelled a bit mouldy. Monster, their only restaurant, is famous for begin quirky, but again we just found it odd, dark and incomprehensible. Very family unfriendly. Utterly nothing for children at all. So in conclusion, it was quirky, dark, family unfriendly and smelly. Not for us.

Dacore, Staff & ambience
We enjoyed our stay very much,Our room was on the garden side & on one of the low levels, It was so DARK that even with all the lights on we struggled. Overall our experience was a positive one, the staff were top notch all around,As was the decor, but if you are uncomfortable in DARK 24/7 the lower levels are not for you .

Finer details required

the warmth in the common areas and rooms as we visited from Qld in Winter. Discounted car parking. Beautiful shower products.
We encountered staff suffering colds and coughing in the dining room and reception, the paper menus were dirty, as the hotel is very dark and there are very dark surfaces right throughout the hotel any light shining on them showed how unclean those surfaces are particularly the servery surfaces in the dining room and the floor, the lift surfaces. The rooms are very dark and we had to open the cupboard doors which illuminated lights in the cupboards just to illuminate the bed so that we could pack our bags. The car parking underneath is very convenient but having to exit the lift and go to reception to validate the ticket every time before leaving the car park is a nuisance. However of course we did appreciate the discounted rate. A better ticket system for hotel guests would be appreciated.
